HUBBARD - Melba Elizabeth, 83, of Milton, Nova Scotia, Queens County, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, N.S.

Born in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Hollingsworth) Anthony.

Melba was a hard worker and always stayed busy. Melba’s working career consisted of working as caretaker for Mersey River Lodge, waitressing with Lanes Privateer Inn and Restaurant for ten years. Melba was a long time member of the Charleston Baptist Church and volunteered for many years with the Queens County S.P.C.A. Melba was also both president and member of the Mill Village and Charleston T.O.P.S. program (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly). Melba’s other interest included her love for cat’s and all animals in general. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and took great pride in gardening. Recently Melba joined Queens Adult Day And Respite Program, which allowed her to meet new friends and socialize in a fun community setting. Above all else Melba was a caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother, family was everything to her and for this she will be greatly missed.

Melba is survived by her daughters Belinda (Troy Inness) of Milton and Ann McGinnis of Liverpool; sons Sheldon (Kathy) of Kingston, Ont., Darren of Moncton, N.B. and Timothy Parnell of Liverpool; special friends Patricia Oickle and Amanda and Destiny Hatt; grandchildren Todd, Francis, Johnny, Mary - Ann, Crystal and Joey; many great grandchildren, nephews Joey and Chris and sister in-law Erma Anthony.

Besides her parents, Melba was predeceased by her husband Joe and Brother Oscar Jr., nephew Shawn Anthony.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS At Melba’s request, there will be no funeral service. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Milton Baptist Church or the Queens County S.P.C.A., a cause close to her heart.

The family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers of Queens Adult Day And Respite Program, for their care and compassion shown to Melba.
