Marie Shirley Tarr

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother and mother in law Marie Tarr, 93, of Western Head, Queens County, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Thursday, November 27, 2025 after a brief illness.

Born in Chester Basin, Marie was a daughter of the late George Winton and Dora (Cross) Hatt.

Marie always loved getting together on her birthday with her sisters Rita, Doris and her brother Laurie as well as their children. Marie lived very independently and could be seen sporting about in her little blue car. She enjoyed chatting with folks and meeting her friends Jessie, Thelma and Marnie for lunch. Christmas was her favourite holiday and was happy when it was time to pull out her pre-trimmed tree. She joked that she would die happy if she had a good lobster sandwich and was thrilled at the opportunity to have a thick one delivered the evening before her passing.

Marie is survived by her sons Ronald and Michael (Rosalie), both of Western Head. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her sisters Doris Francis of Mersey Point and Rita Hatt of Halifax. Her brother Laurie of Dartmouth.

Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband Charles “Bruce” Tarr, her sister Marion White and her brothers Fred, James and Murray.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. No flowers. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be made below.

The family would like to thank all the staff at South Shore Regional and Queens General Hospitals for the excellent care. Also to Joan Weagle and staff at the local legion for their kindness and generosity. Her neighbours in Western Head loved Marie and saw her as both Mother and grandmother and we appreciate that they always in included her. Marie is now at peace.
