Margaret "Peggy" Rose Kelley

d. March 12, 2026

It is with deep love and sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother Margaret “Peggy” Kelley, 95, on March 12, 2026. She passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side.

Peggy was born in Georgetown, ON to the late Robert and Rose (Boyle) Muir. She was brave, caring, loving, had a great sense of humor and she was devoted to her family. Everyone who met her loved her.

Peggy was an avid knitter and crocheter. There wasn’t a baby that she knew of that didn’t receive a blanket made with love. She enjoyed playing bingo and her daily Lexicon puzzles. Word Search, Danielle Steel books and yarn were always present in her room. She was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and could be found watching curling on TV. At Queens Manor, she was a member of the residents Council, hand bell choir and Sunshine Committee. She always knew what was happening at the Manor and was a sounding board for all. In earlier years, Peggy enjoyed travelling to warm, wonderful destinations especially on cruises with her sister-in-law Pat Rawlings and family. Pat was more like a sister to her.

Peggy started working at a young age at Domtar Paper Mill in Georgetown, ON where she grew up. This is where she met the love of her life and married John “Jackie” Kelley. They eventually moved to Liverpool with their son. Queens Dress Shop, Liverpool Paint and Paper and Veinot’s Footwear were fortunate to have her as an employee. Peggy was a member the Saint Gregory’s Ladies Auxiliary, member of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she held many positions and an honorary member of the Liverpool lions Club.

Peggy is survived by her son Robert “Bobby” (Charlotte) of Liverpool, NS. Daughter Bernadette (Danny) Manthorne of Milton, NS. Proud grandmother to John (Katrina) of Florence, MA and Nicholas of Milton, NS. Honored great grandmother to Weston, Maeve and Emmeline “Millie” Kelley of Florence, MA. Her best friends Gail and Ev Butler of Kentville and a number of special nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her husband John “Jackie”; infant son Paul, brother William “Bill”, sister-in-law Lois Muir and stepmother Ivy Muir.

Queens Manor was her home for the last 10 years and everyone there was her extended family. She adored the staff. A few held a special place in her heart along with Andrew MacVicer. “Queen of the Manor” was a title she held upon arriving at the Manor and one she held to her last day. Peggy always knew what was happening and worried about the staff and residents. She said “I am a bit nosey, you know”. The family wishes to thank the staff at Queens Manor for their loving care and support during Mom’s final days.

As per Mom’s final wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. Where a Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 23rd, 2026 from 6-8 p.m.. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to Queens Manor in her memory. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
