George Alexander Mansfield

Mansfield; George Alexander, age 86, of Caledonia, Queens County, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home on Monday, June 12th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Caledonia, he was the eldest son of the late Francis Pearl Mansfield and step-mother Mildred (Conrad) Mansfield.
George was a truly devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He could always be counted on to help out in just about any situation, many times coming to the aid of others. George’s working career started in the military but only lasted a short time due to a hearing impairment. He then went to work at Bowater Mersey Paper Company starting in the sulphite department and later the TMP plant as a superintendent where he retired just shy of 55. George and his wife, Shirley, had almost 25 years living the good life of retirement. Together, they enjoyed spending time at the cabin, taking trips and camping. Over the years, George accumulated many interests and hobbies. Some of these included everything from hunting, broomball, hockey, curling, archery and ham radio just to name a few. George played guitar as well and many a good party was enjoyed when he brought it out.
George’s most loved pastime besides his family was fishing. He could be seen early morning casting his line in any one of his favorite spots. He always looked forward to his many fishing trips and especially enjoyed the salmon fishing trips in Newfoundland. Over the years, George volunteered in many different organizations. Some of those included coaching minor hockey, involvement with the salmon association and instructing archery with his brother Ted to name a few.
George will be sadly missed by his son, Michael (Emily) of Amherst, Laura-Lee (Gary) Mitchell of Hantsport and Jo-Anne (Peter DeLong) of Tusket. Grandchildren, Alicia, Kyle, Paige, Andrew and Latisha. Great grandchildren, Harmoni, Max, Mary, Tyla and Aiden. His sister, Linda Lucier of Liverpool and step brother, Gerald (Roberta) Wortman of Harmony.
