Lloyd J. Roy

d. May 31, 2026

Lloyd James Roy, 85, of Central Port Mouton, passed on May 31, 2026. Dad was surrounded by family constantly during his last few days and I hope he was aware of unity in the room surrounding him with love.

Dad was born in South West Port Mouton to Weldon and Lula (Fisher) Roy.

He married my mom, Judy in 1965. They were soulmates in the truest of forms, rarely apart. Dad was a fisherman all his working life, early on off-shore draggers transitioning to in-shore day fishing shortly after I was born. He was rescued by helicopter, with the rest of the crew of the Karen B after she caught fire. He was always happy to report no lives were lost, especially the black Labrador Retriever that sailed with them regularly. When he no longer sailed the ocean, he made and repaired nets until 2024.

Dad was not happy being idle, asking Mom every morning, “Where are we going today?” He recently attended the Queens Adult Day and Respite Program where the staff provided exceptional care above and beyond what is required of them. He especially loved days when they had musical entertainment, he never lost his love of music until the end. Later in life he discovered enjoyment playing bingo. Even as dementia took an ever increasing toll, he never lost the ability to play nine cards per game.

In his younger years he was an avid hunter of waterfowl and deer. Dad was a kind and gentle soul, never uttering a cross word. He enjoyed watching hockey and baseball, especially the Toronto Blue Jays, which I was fortunate enough to take him to two home games in 1998. Dad was an animal lover whether enjoying them in nature or joyfully greeting any pets that may be in homes he entered.

Above all else, he loved his family beyond measure and we were all so very fortunate to know we all had his endless unconditional love. His great grandson, Owen, was the brightest light in his life and he was honoured to share a middle name with him.

Dad is survived by his wife, Judy (Murray); daughter, Linda Roy (Craig Buffett). Granddaughter, Alyson Bowers (Josh Wamboldt), their children, Hailey Bowers, Lucas Wamboldt and Olivia Wamboldt; grandsons Bradley Bowers (Jessie Bowers), their son, Owen; Christopher Bowers. Sister, Claudia Patterson.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Carl, Everette, Lorimer, Frank and Carman. Sisters, Martha Roy, Caroline Smith, Joan Hanson, Eunice Roy as well as twin siblings in infancy. Mother in law Mildred (Hanson, Murray) Roy and father in law Sydney Murray.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. At Lloyd’s request, there will be no funeral service. . We would ask those wishing to make donations to support the day program he attended at Queens Manor (re ADP IMO Lloyd Roy) or Queens General Hospital. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral com. (below)

While we will feel a great void with Dad’s passing, we take comfort in the many times he indicated that he lived a wonderful life. We would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff of Queens General Hospital for the respectful and compassionate care during his last few weeks. Marsha and Michael Ringer for always lending a helping hand and being a great support to us all during the last few days before Dad’s passing. Staff and attendees of the Queens Adult Day and Respite Program, you made his last few months enjoyable far beyond expectations. A special thank you to Dr. Heather Johnson, who cared for Dad the last twenty six years, he thought the world of you and it is obvious the feeling was mutual.
