Larry Mitchell Fancy

d. September 19, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Mitchell Fancy, of Milton, who left us at the age of 73.

Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Larry was the son of the late Raymond and Lucy (Weagle) Fancy.

Larry was a devoted family man and an extremely hard worker. He spent over 30 years driving transport trucks for Thompson Transfer before continuing his career with Eisner’s Transport. He took immense pride in his work and was respected for his dedication and reliability.

Outside of work, Larry and Joanne were well-established folk artists. They spent countless hours together carving and painting. Larry’s life was also rich with simple joys. He adored animals and was rarely seen without a bag of milk bones in his pocket for every dog he met. He had a special fondness for cats, especially his pride and joy, “White Kitty.” Larry also found great pleasure in smoking trout and mackerel in his smokehouse and loved preparing a “feed” of smoked fish for himself and his boys, Mitchell and Michael. Over the years, he grew into quite the cook, always making roasts, turkeys, hams, or a pot of homemade soup. He could also make a mean loaf of homemade bread .

Larry’s kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched everyone who knew him. He always put others first, doing his best to make sure those around him were happy. In his later years, he enjoyed drives to Bridgewater with his son Mike, especially their lunches at Swiss Chalet, and he found joy in attending local music festivals to support homegrown talent.

Larry’s life was one defined by love—for his family, for Joanne, for his animals, and for the people around him. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude.

Larry is survived by his loving sons, Mitchell (Sheri Joudrey) and Michael—known affectionately as “the boys” and his granddaughter Alyssa. Larry also leaves behind his sister, Audrey (Lawrence “Butch”) Roberts as well as many extended family members and friends.

Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Joanne Louise (Wambolt). Their bond was unbreakable—whether they were attending yard sales, spending quiet time together, or proudly cheering on their granddaughter Alyssa and their nieces. Larry and Joanne truly were inseparable. He was also predeceased by his brothers Brian, Raymond, Murray, and Roger.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Milton Community Cemetery. Donations in Larry’s memory may be made to SHAID Animal Shelter, a cause close to his heart. Online condolences may be made below.
