Joyce Sylvia Foster (Kaiser) of Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101.
Born on May 19, 1925, Joyce was the daughter of the late Fred and Mattie Kaiser. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Victor, Keith, and Ralph Kaiser; her sister, Ruth Walker; her beloved husband of 70 years, Edward "Ted" Foster; and her grandchildren, Aurora Foster and Wade Davison.
Joyce began her career in accounting before discovering her true calling in nursing. She worked for many years as an emergency room nurse at Queens General Hospital, where she was known for her dedication, compassion, and steady presence. She retired at the age of 61 after a long and rewarding career caring for others.
Joyce found joy in everyday life. She was an avid reader, a skilled player at her bridge club, and a talented knitter with many baby hats donated to the hospital to show for it. She adored babies and jellybeans, and everyone who visited new exactly where to find her secret stash. She was a loyal Blue Jays fan who made the trip to Toronto for a home game at age 80, and at 101 was still waiting, patiently, for another World Series win. She was also an enthusiastic competitor at the Liverpool Bowling Centre where she held the ladies’ high single score of 99, a record she was proud to maintain over the years.
Joyce is survived by her sisters, Freda Van Blaricom of Asheville, North Carolina, and Gloria Sanchez of Aliso Viejo, California; her six children: Janice Foster (Keith Mason) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Allan (Bertha) Foster of Brooklyn, Nova Scotia; Ken (Debbie) Foster of Ortonville, Michigan; Darryl (Heather) Foster of Shell Lake, Saskatchewan; Gail (Bev) Davison of Brooklyn, Nova Scotia; and Greig (Darlene) Foster of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory.
Joyce spent her final years at Ridgewood Assisted Living in Bridgewater, where she received exceptional care from a dedicated team. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Ridgewood Assisted Living and Queens General Hospital for the kindness and support they provided.
In keeping with Joyce's wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Joyce will be remembered for her quiet strength, sharp mind, devotion to her family, and wry sense of humour that she shared with so many throughout her long and well-lived life. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved and the countless lives she touched.
"A life measured not only in years, but in love, service, and the memories left behind."
