John Francis Atkins

With great sadness, we announce the passing of John Francis Atkins, 83, of Kempt on Friday, December 12, 2025, with his family by his side at South Shore Regional Hospital.

John was a son of the late Richard Atkins and Agnes ( Canning )

John was a former employee with Bowater Mersey running an excavator for many years until he retired on June 1, 2002. He drove log trucks for many years and after his retirement, John used to cut logs to keep himself busy. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays, listening to bluegrass music and spending time with his family. He thought the world of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years Janie (Amero) of Kempt. Daughters Monica Atkins and Michelle Atkins, both of Kempt, his sons Charles Atkins (Marilyn) and Justin Atkins (Tiffany) both of Drayton Valley, AB. Grandchildren, Tristan, Taylor, Bailey, Ashton, Roman, Damien, Lucas, Willow. Great grandchildren Brooklyn, Alexis, Jayce, Brady. Sisters Charlotte (Louis) Wamboldt, Molega, Mary (Chris) Morrow, Chester. Brothers David Atkins (Debbie) Maitland Bridge, Richard Atkins (Martie) of Caledonia, Tim Atkins (Andrea), Sandy Bottom.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother Robert “Bobbie” Atkins.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers Funeral Home, Liverpool. Graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made below.
