Frederick John Holborn

Holborn, Frederick John, 76 of Liverpool, passed Sunday, November 19, 2023.
Born in Halifax, Fred was the eldest son of Margaret and “Chuck” Charles Pottie.
Although he was a man of small stature and was affectionately known as “little Big Fred” to his extended family, he had a big heart and was a devoted husband, father, papa and friend.
Food was always a passion for Fred and he took great pride in preparing meals for his family, often planning what the next meal would be while they were eating the meal he just cooked. He turned his passion for food into a career when he graduated from NSCC as a chef, then spent over 40 years preparing wonderful meals for others at various places including White Point Beach Resort, the Halifax Club, and the Halifax Airport.
Fred loved to fish, spent lots of time walking with Donna (especially at their favorite place around Point Pleasant Park), and was a yo-yo champion (a title he was quite proud of). Fred loved Bingo and spent many years as a favorite bingo caller at the Forum. He and Donna, along with sister in law Sylvia, enjoyed travelling together to the valley to go yard sailing, and often packed the car full with all their treasures. Getting lost on the back country roads was never a frustration, but instead ended in lots of laughs and great memories for them all. Fred was a gentle soul who loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was well loved by all who knew him. He was a big animal lover and Dorey always appreciated the treats that he carried in his pockets for her.
In 1968 Fred married Donna, the love of his life, and in September 2023 they celebrated 55 years together. Together with Donna, they raised their 2 children in Halifax, moving to Liverpool after their retirement.
In addition to his wife Donna, Fred is survived by his daughter Tina Holborn Kennedy of Liverpool and son Fred (Mandy) of Brooklyn; grandchildren Tenaya, Alex (Victoria), Eric, Hunter and Neely; 3 great grandchildren; brother Peter Pottie of Halifax; and special friend Frances Collier of Halifax.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers Funeral Home, Liverpool. There will be no visitation at the family’s request, but a celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Milton Community Cemetery. No flowers by request but memorial donations can be made to the SPCA. To share memories or condolences please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com
The family would like to thank Dr. MacKinnon, the nurses and staff at Queens General Hospital, and the staff at Queens Home Support and Home Care for the wonderful care provided to Fred over the past few months.
