GREENOUGH – Donald “Myril”, 89, of Milton, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
Born in Milton, Myril was a son of the late Donald R. and Mabel J. (Hatcher) Greenough.
Myril was a veteran serving with the Royal Canadian Navy for five years and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a former employee with Bowater Mersey Paper Company in Brooklyn. Myril was an active member of Mersey Branch, #38, Royal Canadian Legion in Liverpool as well as an active member of Trinity Anglican Church where he served as a Lay Minister for a number of years. He was a former member of the Milton Community Hall Association and the friends of Hank Snow Society. Myril enjoyed a lifetime of being active; playing baseball, bowling, golfing, hunting and fishing. Music flowed thorough Myril like blood in his veins. From performing regularly on CKBW, countless variety shows, numerous nursing homes and his own living room, Myril was most comfortable behind a guitar.
Myril is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (Richard); his daughter Holly (Rolland) Lariviere of Liverpool, his son Scott (Heather) of Pentz; grandchildren Jessica (Thomas) Helson, Christopher (Tanya) Lariviere, Chantal (Jacob) McCoubrey, Lauren and Sara. His sisters Beverly (Sean) Barry of Powell River, BC, Maureen (Marvin) Williams of Beach meadows, Lorraine “Honey” (Ken) Macumber of Milton. His brother Leigh of Edmonton, AB.
Besides his parents, Myril was predeceased by his brother Wayne.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, where visitation will be held Sunday evening, July 2, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.. Funeral service will be held Monday, July 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Anglican church, Liverpool with Reverend Cherry Workman officiating assisted by Reverend Judy Cross. Burial will be in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Bog Road, Liverpool. No flowers by request, donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
