George Churchill Mitchell

Mitchell - George C., 83, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully September 6, 2025 in Mahone Bay Nursing Home with Margaret, Michael and Stephen by his side.

A life long resident of Liverpool, George was a son of the late George and Phyllis (Wesley) Mitchell.

As a very community minded citizen, George took part in many local organizations. He cherished the time he was able to spend with Michael and Stephen at the rink or any other sport they were involved in. He was also very involved with the Lunenburg/Queens Special Olympics, the Queens County Museum (where he was able to share his love of Christmas by sharing his “Dickensville” display), 545 Air Cadet Squadron and the Liverpool Lions Club. He also played basketball with the Liverpool Panthers a few years ago. Many miles were also logged crossing New Ross road to attend events his grandchildren were involved in, McKenna’s horses, 4H and Hattem’s sports and Army Cadets.

George is survived by his wife Margaret and his sons Michael (Susan) and Stephen as well as grandchildren Hattem (Ashley) and McKenna. He is also survived by his brother Brian (Crystal) and his sister Janice.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his sisters Peggy and Marilee.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held at a later date. No flowers by request, donations will be gratefully accepted in George’s memory by the Lunenburg/Queens Special Olympics; 100 High Street, Bridgewater, NS B4V 1V9.
