Francis W. Payzant

Francis W. Payzant, 83, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully at VG Site of the QE II, Halifax, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Albert and Helen (Vane) Payzant.

Francis spent 30 years at Seaboard GM as a parts clerk, then moved to Steel and Engine Products Limited (STENPRO) in Liverpool and finally as a self-employed barber. Francis led a life full if purpose and pride. In 1972, he married the love of his life, Peggy, and they settled into their family home in Liverpool. His property was his pride and joy. Francis became known as the man who took 50 years to paint his house and worked at it regularly, but never officially had it finished. He also sacrificed much of his free time to his community. He was a proud member of the Liverpool Firefighters Association for 26 years, holding many different committee chairs and officers' positions. He also enjoyed chatting with community members in his barber shop where issues crucial to the towns future could be discussed and debated. Francis was a proud man and was beyond proud of his two sons Jamie and David. He spent his life instilling values and raising boys who grew up to become young men with those same values and goals for their families. He also enjoyed his Sunday drives with Peggy, where they were found regularly on the highways of the province. Whether it was a quiet drive, or a community supper, their time together was a reflection of their love and admiration for each other.

Francis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy (Freeman); his sons Jamie and David (Daisy), both of Liverpool and his grandchildren Lacey and Levi. His sisters Peggy (John) Whynot of Milton and Dorothy “Dot” (Fred) Lohnes of Liverpool.

Besides his parents, Francis was predeceased by his brother Albert Jr.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where visitation will be held Monday, September 28, 2026 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the funeral home.
