On Friday morning May 22nd, 2026, our dear mother Eva Spinney passed away at Surf Lodge nursing home, Lockport, Nova Scotia.
She was the daughter of the late James and Minnie Smith of St. Catherines River, Queens County.
After teaching in several one room School Houses, she married my dad and stayed home to look after her parents and 3 children. Her family lived in St Catherines River until a move to Port Mouton. There she looked after her father - in law as well. After our dad died, she found another love and married our stepdad. They shared the time living at their homes in White Point and Port Mouton. She spent the last years living at Surf Lodge with her second husband.
Our mom was able to travel with both husbands over the years. She was a member of church groups in Port Joli, Port Mouton and Hunts Point. One of the memories are the summer evening socials on Jean Smith’s veranda next door. Mom ran her home with great organizational skills, something to be admired.
Eva is survived by her second husband Douglas Spinney, her children Rodney (Hazel) Sherman (Lisa) and Elaine Williams, grandchildren Carolyn, Walter, Michael and Samantha, stepchildren Don, Cindy (Sandi) and Glenn (Debbie). She has many nieces and nephews remaining.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Elmer, brother Clyde and his wife Alice, son in law Junior Williams. She was the last of her family and Elmer’s family of that generation.
Funeral arrangements have taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, N.S. where funeral service will take place Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, with a reception to follow at Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, N.S.
Family burial will be beside Elmer in Peaceful Hill Cemetery, Central Port Mouton. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com (below)
Very special thanks to all the staff of Surf Lodge in Lockport, N.S. for the care and attention given to our mom.
