Carol Townsend

Carol Townsend, 85, previously from Port Joli, passed away on April 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at Queens General Hospital.

Carol grew up in St. Catherine’s River where she went to school and met her husband, Ivan Murray Townsend. Together they had five boys, and she spent her early life raising them in their lakeside home in her beloved community of Port Joli.

Carol spent much of her time volunteering and giving back to her community. She found deep joy in connecting with neighbours, friends, and especially her family. She spent many of her later years delivering the mail every morning, volunteering in the United Church Women’s Group, baking wedding and birthday cakes for community members, and volunteering at the local Crime Prevention Breakfasts.

She would often be found sitting at her quilting rack stitching her latest design or knitting a pair of socks to gift each of her grandchildren for Christmas. She loved reading and would frequent the book mobile, as well as completing the daily crossword puzzle in record time.

She fiercely loved her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. Whether it was an afternoon in the kitchen baking brown bread, a game of cribbage filled with conversation and laughter, or a spirited round of Scrabble or a puzzle at the table, Carol had a gift for making ordinary moments feel special. She has passed on not only her skills and traditions, but also her kindness, warmth, and love of togetherness.

Carol is survived by sons, Gary (Brenda), Liverpool; Gordon (Pam), Wolfville; Gregory (Dawn), Wileville; Wade (Wendy), Chester Basin; and Hugh (Carol Ann), Simms Settlement. Carol is also survived by sisters Lillian, Windsor and Roselyn (Ron), Edmonton.

Carol leaves behind nine grandchildren, Sarah (Taylor), Jonathan (Ashley), Meighan (Brandon), Kathryn (Meagan), Joshua (Sarah), Morgan (Jeremy), Emily (Mike), Mandy (Saied), Nicholas (Colleen) and 8 great grandchildren.

Carol is predeceased by her husband, Ivan Murray Townsend.

A service will be held on April 14, 2026, at Chandler’s Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00am followed by the service and reception at 11:00am. Reverend Peter Anthony officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Surf Lodge for the care they gave Carol over the past two years and Queens General Hospital ER doctors Dr. Burrill, Dr. Bray and Dr. Dietz. A special thank you to Dr. Cosh and Dr. MacDonald as well as all the nurses and staff of the medical unit at Queens General Hospital.
