John Alcid Rothlisberger

Rothlisberger-John Alcid, age 88, of: Liverpool, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2nd,2021 at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.

Born in Eager, Arizona, John was the son of the late Alcid and Fern, (Nelson) Rothlisberger.
John was raised on a dairy farm in North Western, New Mexico. He attended Colorado State University with a degree in Animal Science and then went on to receive his Master of Science Degree in Population Genetics from the University of Nebraska.
Upon graduation he worked for ten years at the USDA Fort Robinson Beef Cattle Research Station, Crawford, Nebraska. He served twelve years on the European Breeds Breed Improvement Committee, having served two years as Chairman, and two years on The Board of Directors. He also served as a member of The Performance and Research committee of the Canadian Simmental Association.

John along with his wife Sheilah spent many years working in the cattle industry throughout North America.
He later moved to Liverpool, Nova Scotia, with Sheilah where he worked for many years and helped to run Sheilah’s Kitchen. John was a very skilled baker and was known for his famous brown bread. John took great pride in his property and was always fixing things up to make it look better.
John was devoted to his family and made certain that family came first. He loved to welcome family and friends to gather in the beautiful gardens for a fine feast of good food, usually with a quality top cut of beef! John loved to engage in meaningful discussions around the table that would often be followed by a good sing song and sharing of stories. John was a master storyteller and would always have a clever expression to fit almost any situation. He would delight us with a new one often, but this is one we will always remember. “Cowboy up or sit in the truck!”

He is survived by his loving wife, Sheilah; daughters; Debra Stanley of Colorado; Dianna (Ron) Dean of Utah; sons, Dana (Ann), Danna (Suzette), Darrell (Sheri), all of Utah, Dwayne of Colorado; step sons, Jacques (Kristin) Reid of Ontario, Louis(Marie Claude) Reid of Quebec; numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Kathy(Blake) Hicks of New Mexico; brother , Don(Clara) of New Mexico; niece Lesli Chandler Myers ( Brad Myers) of Halifax; nephew John chandler ( Cheryl MacAulay) of Halifax.
