Condolence from Terry M. Smith on January 30th, 2011 6:38 pm

I am very sad to hear of Mike’s sudden passing, and offer my sincere condolences. Mike was a good life-long friend of my older brother, Rickey Smith; thus during my younger years, I too, from time to time, had the pleasure of having some fun and memberable experiences with Mike, particularly at the cottage in Sumerville. In fact, I last spoke with Mike during a week-end visit to Sumerville beach this past summer. It is said that the true measure of a person’s quality of life on earth is not by years, but by the impact a person has had on those that he has touched on his journey. I am pleased to say that Mike touched my life in a subtle and positive way during my younger years, and I am thankful for that fact. He will be greatly missed.

Judy and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. Mike and I, along with a number of others, were great friends throughout high school and I have wonderful memories of the time our group spent together – especially playing basketball anywhere we could find a hoop (including the basement hall in the Baptist Church where, because of the low ceiling, Mike developed his flat trajectory jump shot). Mike was a great friend – fun, loyal, and generous. Although our lives took different roads following high school, Mike remained as someone I liked and admired. To Mike’s family, our thoughts are with you. Mike will be missed by all of us.

Condolence from Donnie Scott on February 3rd, 2011 12:14 am

Mr. & Mrs. Nickerson, Ann and family;
I’m saddened to hear of your loss. In our last few visits to Liverpool and Summerville, we had the pleasure of experiencing Mike’s casual friendliness and welcome; Mike’s ensuring that we were well set up and comfortable in the Burrow’s cottage next door and a little something to warm our innards. Summerville will not be quite the same without Mike’s warm welcome and wave.
Mike left a lasting impression as the leader our LRHS basketball team, always putting out his best effort and usually leading the team in both scoring and defence. As an adult, his mellow nature was appreciated by all. Liverpool will miss him.
All the best to his loved ones he left behind. May your memories with him give you comfort and strength in the days and years ahead.

Donnie Scott, Victoria, BC
