MOUZAR – Beatrice Matilda, 94, Liverpool, formerly of Brooklyn, Queens County, NS
With much heartfelt sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mom, Nan and Great Nanny Bea…Beatrice Matilda (Hirtle) Mouzar in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Born in Liverpool, Bea was a daughter of the late Hector and Florence (Morreau) Hirtle and the youngest of four children.
Bea lived her early years in her hometown, working at the Mersey Store and the theatre as an usher. In 1949, she married Victor Mouzar, raised their two children in the wonderful village of Brooklyn where, together, they owned and operated Mouzar’s Store until its closure in 1988. Bea loved living in Brooklyn all her life and enjoyed all the people whom she had met over the years. She could relate to so much history of Brooklyn, she could have been the village historian!
Her patience, compassion and beautiful creativeness was admired by so many with her talents at knitting, sewing, cooking, artistic design, flower arrangements and her love of songs and music but, above all, her endearing ways to all her family, near and far and to those around her. Many can relate to her beautiful, personalized Christmas stocking and those delicious pineapple squares! Bea loved her travel years, whether it was to local or provincial curling events or to the West Coast to attend weddings, graduations or whatever might be happening at the time. Memories forever tied to her family’s hearts. We cannot forget her second love, the Blue Jays as well as the many curling bonspiels which helped to fill long hours.
Bea will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her daughter Susan (Brian), daughter in law Tinie (Giffy), grandchildren Darren, Michelle (Mike), Chad (Jennifer), Jill (Paul) and Jenna (Garret). Great grandchildren Ella, Kylee, Casey, Lucas, Lawson, Mia and Andie and Giffy’s girls Kaitlyn (Jeff) and Jenna (Zack) and baby Nyla along with her loving nieces, nephew and many cherished friends.
Besides her parents, Bea was predeceased by her husband Victor, her son Gary, her sisters Evelyn Ernst, Nita Foley and her brother Gordon.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A celebration of Bea’s wonderful life will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reception to follow the service. A private family burial will take place at a later time. No flowers by request, donations may be made to Cancer Research or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
The notable saying “it takes a village” stands with so much meaning at this time. Thank you to the many community people and family who thought about Bea with visits, cards, gifts and Facetime. Our local caregivers, all the dedicated paramedics, doctors and nurses at Queens General Hospital and South Shore Regional Hospital, the wonderful staffs at Queens Manor, Liverpool and Surf Lodge, Lockeport as well as Chandlers’ Funeral Home.
“A mothers love is like the sun… It warms and blesses everyone it touches. Today, we celebrate you, Grandma and thank you for helping us see just how good life can be with the wisdom you gave us through the years.”
Offer Condolence for the family of Mouzar; Beatrice Matilda

So sorry to read of Bea’s passing. So many wonderful memories from the days we spent with both Bea and Vic at camp. Saturday night after the store would close they would arrive at camp, (Bea’s famous lobster dip in hand) and out would come the deck of cards for a fun filled evening! John also enjoyed his talks with Bea when he played at the Manor. You are in our thoughts,

Bea’s Family,
Bea was the most lovely person. The very best kind of human. When I was a young nurse just getting started, I’m pretty sure she and Vic were behind the anonymous plowing of my driveway while I was working long shifts. Kind, community oriented people who left people better than they found them. I will always remember Bea fondly. Thinking of you at this sad time.

Bea was such a wonderful, kind and sweet person. I had called on her numerous times for info and her memories for various historical projects that I was working on. She amazed me at how easily she could remember things from many, many years ago. My grandparents had purchased Bea’s parents house in the late 1960s (now the site of Liverpool Superstore), so we would often share our memories of growing up in the same house but many years apart. How fortunate her family and friends were to have her for so long, but no matter how old our loved ones are, it is difficult to say good bye. I am sending my most sincere condolences to Susan, Tinie and families at this very sad time.

Dear Susan, Brian, Tinnie and Giffy and your children, just read this today …. So sorry …
Bea was such lovely lady who always had that twinkle in her eyes ! Both she and Vic were so very kind to me as a teenager when I spent time with the family at home or at the camp, fun times. You were fortunate to have had her all these years, as was she to have had you all. I like to think they, Vic, Gizzy and Bea, are playing cards and chuckling right now. Bless you all in your grief.
