MacLEOD – Joyce Myra, 86, of Liverpool, NS.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother. She was special in our lives and we loved her so much. She was a small lady but strong, independent and had a smile for everyone.
In her younger years, Mom worked for Kim Wong’s Café and Stedman’s Store in Liverpool as well as Moirs Chocolate Factory in Halifax dipping chocolates. She stayed at home to raise her family with the exception of one year working at the Bowling Alley to earn enough for a down payment on a house and rejoiced the day when we finally had a home of our own. Her children were her pride and joy. Mom regretted not finishing high school but made sure all of us had a good education – and she graduated right along with us.
Church was a large part of Mom’s life. She loved singing in the choir and was treasurer of the ACW for many years. She especially enjoyed the potlucks and Christmas teas and socializing with her community. Over the years, Mom enjoyed quilting, knitting, watching movies and playing cards. She was a wonderful baker as anyone who has eaten a piece of her coconut pie can attest to. And let’s not forget her famous “fried doughs”! Photography was one of Mom’s passions and she loved taking pictures of family, friends and the beautiful irises in her garden. Mom spent many hours enjoying the sunshine on her swing on the big oak tree in her backyard. Even on chilly days, she could be found there all bundled up and swinging away. We are sure going to miss that smile.
She is survived by her daughters Katherine (Barry) Tucker of Coldbrook, NS; Myra (Les) Foley of Lafayette, LA., her son Peter (Dennis Wyatt) of North Vancouver, BC. Her half brother Merrill (Irene) Croft of Dartmouth.
Mom was predeceased by her parents J. Andrew and Jean (Strachan) Oickle, her husband Danny and her half sister Annabelle Rafuse.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral home, Liverpool. A graveside memorial service will take place in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Bog Road, Liverpool on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.. Reverend Cherry Workman officiating. No flowers by request, donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church or to the church choir fund. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com. Due to the ongoing COVID-19, all those attending Joyce’s service are asked to bring their own masks, practice physical distancing and provide the funeral staff with names and numbers for contact tracing.

Condolence from Eleanor Roberts on December 12th, 2019 3:44 pm

I have known Joyce since I was a little girl … always a smile and a hug. Once I became Sherman’s wife, she became my aunt too … what a wonderful gift in such a tiny body. Always ready for a joke, a good talk and lots of laughter. My mom travelled with Joyce when they were kids, so as you can tell, it was a bond all through their lives. She was loved and will be missed by my family and when I think of her I will think of her bright rays of sunshine she gave to everyone. She left behind her family and friends to mourn her and I, for one, will always miss her. Much love Eleanor (Orme) and Sherman Roberts and my mom Hazel Orme.

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
Far as long as there is memory,
They’ll live on in the heart.

To Kathy, Myra and Peter: May God be close to you now, for strength and comfort and may His peace overflow in the days to come. There is so little one can say, so little one can do when you have lost a loved one.
Your mother was a very dear and close friend and was very special to Cheryle, Carol and I. I first met her in July of 1993 when I took over the command of the Liverpool RCMP Detachment and I was at the Post Office picking up the mail. I noticed this little lady near the door looking my way with a big smile on. I Walked over to her and introduced myself to her. We had a nice chat and when I was leaving she invited me to drop by for a coffee and told me to make Sure I brought my wife with me and the rest is history and over the next 26 years our friendship grew.
People come into your life for a special reason and you’re so thankful they did and Joyce was one of them. I am so glad that I was able to speak to her in person before she passed. We told each other what our friendship met to the other and prayed God to take her. GOD DELIVERED. May you Rest In Peace my friend.

To Joyce’s Family: We are so sorry for your loss. Joyce will be missed by many people. We visited her several weeks ago at the hospital and although she was not feeling well, she still had her magic smile on her face. Always so friendly she will be missed by all who came in contact with her. Many years ago we played cards with Danny and Joyce and the rest of the gang back then. They were good times. Hopefully her memories will help you at this sad time.
