
LINGLEY – Margaret Gertrude “Gert”, 78 of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
Born in Milton, Gert was a daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel (McCoomb) Manthorne.
Gert was co-owner and operator, along with her late husband Philip, of West End Grocery for 22 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Mersey Branch #038, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool. Gert will be lovingly remembered by her family, her friends and all who knew her through her years at the store.
She is survived by her son Tony, of Liverpool; her granddaughter, her sisters Dorinda White of Liverpool, Ellen (Vincent) Nowe, of Milton.
Besides her husband, Philip, Gert was predeceased by her daughters Wendy and Wanda; her son Terry “Scotty”; her sisters Alice Teal, Dolly Fancy and June Metzger; her brothers Fred, Roger, William and Allan.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool. Father Charles Offor officiating.
