Leslie – George Anson, age 85, of Milton, Queens County, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2nd , 2021, at Queens Manor Home for Special Care, Liverpool, N.S.

Born in Eagle Head, Queens County, in 1936, he was a son of the late Clayton and Myrtle (Munroe) Leslie.

George spent time in Sydney, Cape Breton and Halifax during his youth before leaving home at the age of 17 to join the RCAF. He spent 8 years in the service and was stationed in Gimli, Manitoba where he met his first wife (Thorbjorg Louvisa “Thora-Lou”) and mother of his three sons. He moved his family back to Nova Scotia in 1967 to the town of Port Hawkbury in Cape Breton where he worked a variety of jobs and business ventures. In 1982, he moved once more, this time it was back to his home of Eagle Head. It was here that he lost his first wife, Thora-Lou, who passed away due to prolonged illness.

George was a devoted Christian in later life when he met his second wife, Ruby, who shared his passion for spreading the Lord’s word. He was occasionally a lay preacher for several local churches and taught Sunday school. Ruby was supportive of him while he wrote his book called “The Simple Truth” which chronicles his life and beliefs and the event that changed his life and made him the believer in Jesus Christ that he was.

George was predeceased by his siblings, Edith, Wilfred, Wallace and Clayton.

George is survived by his loving wife, Ruby; sons, Timothy (Gail), of Pine Grove, Craig (Colleen), of Hunts Point, Scott, of Liverpool; step-sons, Clarence Selig (Paula Reid), of Mill Village, Terry (Crystal) Selig, of Mill Village; grandchildren, Erin (Shawn) Bigelow, of Bridgewater, David (Ashley) Leslie, of Bridgewater, Kayla Leslie (Steven Laing), of Middlewood, Brandon Leslie, of Bridgewater, Katelyn Leslie, of Liverpool, Michael Leslie, of Liverpool; step-grandchildren, Clarence “C.J” Selig (Becky Hanley), Thomas Selig (Cindy Cunningham), Tina King, Mae King and Christopher Selig; six great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter.

George (Grampa) will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. Condolence from Lynn Kempton-Lowe on April 4th, 2021 12:24 am

Dear Ruby and extended family,
I am so sorry to hear that George has passed away. You and George were such good friends and faithful visitors during the years that Larry was a resident in Queen’s Manor, and we always enjoyed those visits and appreciated your support during difficult times.
I know that I told you several times that I was going to drop in for a visit after you and George moved up here to Milton, but I guess that it’s another example of the old saying, “Don’t put off until tomorrow, what can be done today!” Hopefully, once we get vaccinated against COVID-19, I will at least get down to visit with you and have a nice chat over a good cup of tea.
I always enjoyed hearing George’s opinion on various topics that were discussed in the Bible Study when we were attending Milton Baptist Church. He didn’t mind speaking up or sharing his faith with anyone and I found that so refreshing (and sometimes very thought-provoking) … It was obvious to all that George loved his Lord!
How special, that God would choose to call George home on “Good Friday”… the day that we think of Jesus giving his life as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we could experience eternal life! Tomorrow (Easter Sunday) as we sing praises to our Risen Lord for his Victory over death and sin, I’m sure that Heaven’s choir will join us in those praises and George and Larry will be singing with the angels!
What a wonderful place Heaven must be! No more sickness, no more tears and no longer having to live in a sinful world ever again! Streets of gold and precious gems on Heaven’s gates, and even a mansion of our own! But most of all, to be able to sit at the feet of the Master and listen to His words, feeling surrounded by the warmth of His love!
The Lord must have more for us to do before He calls us home Ruby, but a what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we hear Him calling our names! Until then, we will just have to take one day at a time, with our trust in God and encourage each other as we move forward. God will never fail us nor forsake us, whatever the future holds. Please feel free to call me at any time (my number is listed under K. in the phone book) and know that my love and prayers are with you.
Lynn xoxo

Dear Ruby and Family:

We are so saddened by the news that George has left this earth. We thank God for giving us George. He was a friend and an inspiration – he always had the time to say hello and chat, he was full of love and joy always, he could light up a room like the brightest sun, and he was a living example of God’s love. There will never be another quite like him, and we will miss him dearly. Please know our hearts are broken and that all of you are in our thoughts and in our prayers. George will surely light up the sky in the days ahead, and whenever we see that light, we will know he is there waiting for us.

Our sincere condolences,

Dave and Gail Goulden
