Aloysius Labour, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at home on Sunday, August 20, 2023.
Born June 2, 1938 to the late John and Hannah (Hackett) Labour of English Harbour East, Newfoundland.
Al learned to fish at a very early age and that love for the ocean lead him on many adventures and ultimately to the love of his life Doris “Dot”. Al and Dot were married on May 27, 1961. Later that year the sea came calling him again and he moved with his bride and their infant daughter back to Newfoundland. It wasn’t long before Dot was expecting their second child and longing for her home so they headed home to Nova Scotia and put down roots in East Port L’Hebert where they grew their love and family, having a total of four children.
But for as much as Al loved the sea, he loved his family more. He worked hard and weathered many storms often sacrificing himself to provide for his family. This hard work made him a proud man and a man to be proud of. He was never at a loss for a good fishing story and would beam as he watched the eyes of his listeners dance, he could make you feel like you were right there with him. He especially loved telling these stories to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately call him Bompy.
Al is survived by his loving wife Dot, Children Maria (Craig), East Port L’Hebert, Aloysius Jr. (Debbie), Port Mouton, Peter (Amy), White Point, Crissy (Sheldon), East Port L’Hebert. Grandchildren Christopher, Natasha, Nicole, Robert, Nicholas, Dylan and Conrad. Great-grandchildren Emma, Leland, Jase, Landon, Stella and Ivy and many nieces and nephews.
Al was predeceased by brothers Augustine, Peter, Raymond and Chesley.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reception to follow the service. A private family burial will take place at a later time. No flowers by request, donations to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com

Dot, Peter & Family,
Bomp was a one of a kind person, he was kind hearted, and would do anything for anybody.
He will be in all of our memories forever and never forgotten.
Please know that however you’re feeling right now, sad, numb, guilty, tired, angry, it’s normal. There’s no right way to feel.

Dearest Dot and Family:
I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Al’s passing. He was such a great man and held a special place in my heart. We always found something to laugh about! He also told me how to make fish cakes and I am so grateful for that (but I never could get them to taste as good as his). My heart goes out you all as I know there will be a void in the family of a kind and loving man. Love to you all.

Junior and the entire family,
The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you’ll learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered.
You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to. My condolences to you all. Darren & Bonnie

I was so sad to hear of Al’s passing. He was such a kind hearted, generous, hard working man, lots of stories there, and a great story teller. I’m picturing Jim and Al sitting together now, telling yarns about Newfoundland and fishing, the accordion is out and they are having a grand old time.
Today is going to be so hard but you all have such good memories of a great man to help you through it. I’ll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers.
