To Inez’s family. I have just learned of her passing. I’m quite unsettled these days and have very little time to myself. I’m upset that she’s gone. I remember years ago (about 52) we lived in the same building, her & Donnie downstairs, me & my x upstairs. She was a good person to know. I grew up on the hill next door. So I remember all of you guys. God Bless. I’m sure she’s watching over every one. R.I.P. Inez.
Lynn Kempton-Lowe
I was so sorry to hear about Inez’s passing. Inez was a very special person to me. My mother’s poor health meant many hospital stays for her, and Inez took over the responsibilities of keeping the house clean, cooking wonderful meals for us, and the daunting task of looking after four young, rambunctious children when she was just in her early 20s herself.
Inez didn’t let us down, but became like a little clucking mother hen, rounding us all up for meals and taking the time to get to know us, and introduce us to her wonderful family – (Gerald and Lillian Colp and their children and grandchildren.) I became close friends with Inez’s niece, Peggy, as well as the rest of the Colp family, and they welcomed me into their home without hesitation.
Many times when Inez would leave to go home for the weekend, I would ‘tag along’; and I have two very special memories that have stayed with me through the years. One is of Mrs. Colp (Lillian) holding me in her arms as we watched T.V. – (mothering just came naturally to her, and Inez took after her in that.)
The other memory that stands out in my mind was visiting with the Colp family and attending a Christmas Eve Service at the local Baptist Church one magical night, with big snowflakes falling around us softly. Everyone in the family put on their warmest coats and winter boots before heading down to the Church on foot. We must have filled at least half the pews, and it will be a Christmas that I won’t forget. It helped me to remember that the true meaning of Christmas doesn’t lie in how many gifts that you receive, but the wonder and the worship of baby Jesus, who would grow up and give his life as an atonement for our sins.
I will always remember Inez for her kindness, and will treasure her friendship in my heart always. My condolences to the whole family.
Love and Prayers,
Lynn xoxo
