Your Mom’s smile lit every room that she entered. From my earliest memories her to my most recent visit with her only a couple of months ago, she always projected a rare warmth and grace that endeared her to everyone she met. Her passing came as her life was lived – on her own terms and in her own home. Bonnie and I offer condolences to each of you and to your families.

Millie was a good friend and I’m sure she will be missed by many. She was the last of the Central Port Mouton ladies that visited often, sewed and kept each other company. Everyone drove by her house, and expected to see her lights on.

Mary Beth, Bev, Gilbert and family,
I was very saddened to hear about Mildred’s passing. She was a major part of my life growing up. My mom would have been heart broken to read this obituary as she was like a mother to her. She was a pillar in the community of Port Mouton and everyone knew her. She was very knowledgeable and knew everything. When I was stuck on something, I called Mildred. When I needed help with a baking recipe, I called Mildred. She always had a smile on her face and loved her family dearly. She will be missed by all who knew her. I can see her and Mom now in heaven drinking tea together and discussing what they are going to do. Rest In Peace Mildred and you will be dearly missed.
Love Cheryl and Bill xox

We say good-bye to Mildred with heavy hearts, as she is the last of the wonderful people in Port Mouton who played a hugely important role to all the children around them. Mildred’s life lessons, patience, caring and positive attitudes touched us all. “It takes a Village to raise a child” and how fortunate my generation is to have experienced this. It built confidence and self-esteem throughout our lives.
The Smith family left Port Mouton in 1956 but always stayed in touch with those who influenced us as we grew up. We have been fortunate to have enjoyed Mildred’s humour and laughs, right up to a week before she passed away.
Our deepest sympathy to Beverley, Gilbert, Mary Beth and their families. We are sorry for your loss and the loss to all with whom your Mom came in contact.
Carol and Fred Turner.
Eleanor Lloyd-West (Newell)

To Mildred’s Family,
I first knew Mildred as a child, and “growing up” in our church in Port Mouton she was a regular presence in my life. The last time I saw Mildred was June of this year at church. It was Father’s Day, and I had been to visit my Dad’s grave at the cemetery in Port Mouton.
Mildred looked her usual radiant self, and as I greeted her she had a big smile and a hug for me. She was so happy to see me. Such a nice feeling. I couldn’t believe she was 97. In my eyes she hadn’t changed a bit since her younger years.
My thoughts are with you as you celebrate Mildred’s life. She truly was a very special, very lovely lady. I’m so glad I saw her in June. I will remember her smile and warmth always.
Take care, and embrace all the wonderful memories of your Dear Mildred.

Mildred was admired by us for her gentleness and also her strength. We always enjoyed visiting with her when she came to the west Coast to visit her family. Also the time we spent with her in Maui where she had her favorite spot by the beach under a tree. In the early 2000s John and I visited Nova Scotia and made a trip to visit Mildred in Port Mouton. I still remember driving up to her house and there she was standing in her doorway ready to greet us. She will be missed by many and our condolences go out to Gil Margaret and the whole family.

Mildred was the last grand dame of Port Mouton. She enjoyed sunrise service on Carter’s Beach with a band playing in the background, She knew the hymns and sang from her heart.
She was always so confident when she spoke and telling stories would have a twinkle in her eye.
Now Shirley, Catherine, Jean and Mildred are once again together again.
When you entered her beautiful home she would show you the latest quilt she was working on for a new baby. Life was all about keeping busy.
Her smile and great hugs will be missed.
