So sorry to learn of Joe’s passing. I met Joe when he and I were both patients at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg. Joe so looked forward to your visits Melba, although he fretted about you travelling down here. We shared a table in their “dining room”. Joe was very proud of his preserves and he monitored them carefully! I will never forget all that he said about our meals — mostly chicken. Oh how he hated to have so many chicken meals!!. Joe was a great guy. Although I only knew him in the hospital environment, I knew how deeply he thought of you Melba and how gentlemenly and kind he was. May you find comfort in your treasured memories. My friendship with Joe was one of my great memories from Fishermen’s. Take care.

My most sincere condolences to you Mel, and the rest of the family.
I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. While we did not keep in touch (like we probably should have), Joe meant a great deal to me. As you may recall, Joe was my first partner in working at the jail, and his mentorship was beyond valuable to me. I was a pretty young pup, really fresh to the world of work, and Joe provided a constant, reasonable, common sense sort of guidance and influence that has served me very well in both my career and my personal life. It was my good fortune to have been paired with him.
I will always remember Joe very fondly. May you find strength and comfort in one another and your memories at this difficult time. I am very sorry that I was unable to be present at the service today. Hugs to all, and tell Tim I said hi – it was Tim who tipped me off on the opportunity to work at the jail, leading to my working with Joe.
Rest easy Joe.
