For many years Port Le’Herbert was my second home. I spent many of my summer vacation with my mom going from one aunt and uncle’s house to the other. All of which I loved but like many of your friends and family Uncle Butch most of my favorite times were spent listening to you tell your Tales of your fishing trips the ones you had and the ones that got away and all those nights we gathered at you and Aunt Mag’s place listening to you Aunt mag and pretty much everyone in the family sit around your living room or out in your yard playing in singing music, sharing drinks camping stores and you telling us all of your Journeys that you’ve been on. My childhood is filled with so many memories so many stories so much happiness laughter and a majority of it came from you Uncle Butch and although I never got the time or the chance to say it to you thank you for making this nephew feel so loved and special! I’ll end with these as I could go on for hours but obviously can’t so “I’m going to pull a Hank Snow and be moving on”the same words you always spoke to Aunt mag whenever you were ready to leave. We will all miss you so very much!A piece of her heart has left with you! So until we meet again Rest in peace Uncle Butch! I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART

Marlene – Thinking of you and your family with love and tears during this very sad time. The least that can be said of Butch is that he ‘lived life to the fullest’ and used up ‘more than his nine lives’….all those stories and memories we have all shared will become more precious now that there will be no more… especially those of the Nashville trips and your visits with friends in Musquodoboit Harbour..

We were crush to hear of Butch’s passing. He and I were the same age, but I did not know him until after I started coming back to Jordan Falls 15 years ago. We met him soon after and found though we had lived our lives very differently in very different places, we still had much in common: traditional bluegrass music, guitars, a love of old vocal styles, and wives who could sing the old style harmonies. We shared so many good times, playing music off and (occasionally) on stage. We were hoping for more. His life was such a gift! We miss him so much.
Dana
To all the family sorry for your loss. Sincere condolences are with you guys

It is with great sadness to have learned that Butch had passed away.
Butch was an amazing man who lived life to the foolest. His eyes just beamed when he spoke about his family.
I will fondly remember your sense of humour. Especially, the day that we got to paint your toenails. You were such a good sport. You talked about that for a longtime.
Butch you may be gone. At least you are now free from your pain.
I will miss our chats.
Marlene and family we are thinking of you.
Gordie & Alice Robicheau

I just learned the terrible news today that the world has lost another truly great man. Meg, my heart breaks for you and your family. You and Butch were there for us, and for me, whenever we needed someone to share the good times or help us through the bad. I am sorry that I was not there for Butch’s service, I only heard today. I am shocked and deeply saddened. I thought the world of Butch. I remember going for a ride on his 1500 Gold Wing in St. Margaret’s Bay and have so many other fond memories. I have the stone he gave me at mom’s funeral in January. It meant a lot to me then and I will cherish it always. You, and the whole family, are in the thoughts and prayers of my whole family, and I.

Meg, our thoughts and sympathies are with you at this dark time in your life. Time does heal, but slowly.
Butch was positive and generous and had a huge appetite for life that he took in in great gulps. He was — and will always be — a large and important part of this community. He left us all with many fond memories. Some make us think and others make us smile when they come to mind.
One of my earliest memories is of Butch attacking the engine on his boat — must have been 40 years ago. Maybe more. It was probably the end of the first day of lobstering and he was at the wharf with the hatch back as he worked to fix a carburetor. He’d grab some hunk of apparatus on the carb, haul it off, take a look, and say — “No use for that!” — and fire it away.
He knew better than any downtown mechanic what the carburetor had to do and what extra bits served no purpose on a boat.
I see Butch on his bike, upright like a king riding a mighty steed, a cigarette between his lips as if he were anywhere but cruising down the road. How did he manage to keep that butt going in the wind?
There were other mysteries, like playing his guitar, picking a tune with hands so powerful and fingers so wide it was a wonder he could fret less than four strings at a time. But they did, and he made beautiful music that brought pleasure to so many, many people over the years.
Thanks for sharing this big man.
Stephen Munroe
So sorry for your loss my condolences from my family to yours. I met Butch when I used to go to Hibernia campground and enjoyed playing some music with him!
