Higby, Laurie Craig Age 56
It is with profound grief that we, his family, announce the passing of our beloved Laurie. Laurie passed away suddenly on White Point Rd, in Liverpool NS on July 05, 2021 as a result of a sudden Cardiac Event.
Born in Shelburne NS, he was the son of Sheila (Goodwin) Stuart (Graeme) of Bridgewater NS and Bill Higby (Pat) of Surrey BC. He spent his formative years growing up in Lockeport NS, moving with his family to Liverpool NS in 1981.
Laurie was employed at Brooklyn Power as a Power Engineer and previously worked at Whynot Services with Gavin in his early years.
Laurie loved spending time in his garage, which he referred to as his happy place. When he wasn’t working to perfect his own car, he would be helping others with theirs. He took great pride in his car, which he spent several years doing a meticulous restoration on. He loved to go to car shows. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of White Point Golf Club for many years, enjoying the many friendships formed there. Laurie was passionate about his friends and formed many close personal friendships in all aspects of his life. He will be particularly missed by his friends Karen Cowie and Scott Carson, whom he spent much time with. He is loved and will be missed by his many cousins and extended family.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Candace (Oickle) Buck, her husband Jonathan, and their two children, brother Jamie, nephew Brendan, and stepfather Graeme, to whom he was very close.
He was predeceased by his dog Lucky, who will be interred with him as he wished.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where there will be a celebration of life on Saturday July 24, 2021 between 2 and 4 p.m., with prayers being said at 3:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
No flowers by request, donations may be made to White Point Golf Club Tournament (higbymemorial@gmail.com),who wish to hold a tournament in his honour, or the Friends of Hank Snow Society (info@hanksnow.com) towards the Gavin Whynot Memorial Car show in Laurie’s memory.

Such a terrible loss. Laurie was so thoughtful and kind. My husband Bill worked with Laurie at Brooklyn Power. They were good friends. When Bill got sick, Laurie and Karen would travel the two hours to come and see us, which meant the world to us both. After I lost Bill, they continued to check on me. I would randomly get messages from Laurie asking how I was doing. I will miss that connection. My heart goes out to the family on the loss of such a dear man. My condolences to all his family and friends.
John and Heather Stevens
To Laurie’s family,
John and I were in shock to hear that Laurie was the person in the accident. He was such a great person. Big smile, great guy to work with. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. Laurie will be missed by all that knew him, and will never forget him.

I’ve been trying to find the right words to say . Sometimes you just can’t find the words to say what’s in your heart … Just like yourself, Laurie was kind, funny and loved to have fun . I always seen that beautiful car coming and was always met with a smile and a wave. Life can be so unfair and we always ask why … God must have needed a special angel, so he took the best . Hold on to those memories, he will always be right beside you . Rest easy Laurie , you will be missed ..
Kirk Gaetz
Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Laurie thought of him as a friend. He was always eager to offer a helping hand and always pretty good at doing the task you needed help with. It was always fun just to stop out to the garage and chat . I will miss that his grin and our golf games. Rest In Peace and condolences to all who loved him
Richard F March
Laurie was someone who I really enjoyed working with and getting to know over my last few years here in Brooklyn. He was someone you could always count on to see what was right with life and not what was wrong. Even when he got sick he still managed to stay as positive as possible and worked hard towards beating it. He brought a smile to peoples faces when he entered a room because Laurie was one of the good guys and everyone knew it. We are all missing and thinking about him.
Doug and Sylvia Zwicker, Brian and Kim Mansfield
We are so sorry for your loss. Higgy was a great guy, took much pride in his car. Life is so unfair at times, just keep the memories close to your heart. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. RIP Higgy
Karen Crowell-Neufeld
Laurie was a dear friend of my late husband Randy Crowell. In fact, I met Randy because he and Laurie were neighbours on the Bog Road. Reading Laurie’s obituary is like deja vu … he and Randy worked together at Whynot’s and Brooklyn Power. Both loved their garages and cars and both were kind and loving men with lots of friends. In fact, after Randy passed away Laurie checked in on my daughter Rachel and I often to see how we were doing. He also helped me with many things when I was preparing to move from my house at LaBelle to Ontario. Such sad and shocking news. Sending condolences to his family and close friends.
Mary Keough
