Harten;

Harten, Emerson Godfrey, 79, of New Grafton, Queens County, passed away Wednesday, December 29th, 2010, at home.

Born in Richards Landing, Ontario, he was a son of the late Godfrey and Annabelle (Cain) Harten.

Emerson enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1954, where he served his country for the next ten years. He then worked in construction for the next couple of years before going to work at the Halifax Shipyards during the boom years in the early 1970’s. Emerson then moved on to work with the Department of Defense where he worked the next 17 years until his retirement in January of 1993. He was a member of the Kempt United Baptist Church. Emerson had numerous hobbies such as woodworking, metal fabrication, computers, reading and genealogy.  He loved anything to do that might have a challenge to it as he was very handy at just about anything.

He is survived by his loving wife Arlene; daughters Karolee Floria, of Halifax, Lorainne Harten, of Dartmouth, Rebecca (Ronald) Delaney, of Fall River,; sons Steven Harten, Michael Harten (Jennifer Sorenson), both of Rawdon; grandchildren Jeffrey Floria, Christopher Carr, Samantha Carr, Dale Delaney, Neil Delaney, James Delaney, Steven Planetta, Dyllan Mills-Harten, Daniel Sorenson; sister Phyllis Haight, of Cambridge, Ontario; brother Elgin, of Sault Saint Marie, Ontario.

He was predeceased by a brother Keith.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 3rd, 2011, from 7-9 p.m., and a Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 4th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., both from the Kempt United Baptist Church. Arlene & family:
Arlene, I think I said it all in our phone conversation but just wanted to let you know once again that you are in my prayers and thoughts as I know what you are going through at this time. I enjoyed talking with Emerson when I saw him and he always had a smile and kind thoughts. It was wonderful having you people set under my lay ministry and it’s good to know that he didn’t have to suffer and is now at peace and rest with the Lord. I will always be grateful for the things he did for my own husband, Kendall.
God bless you all!
In Christian love, Myrna

Condolence from Beverley and Dan and families on January 2nd, 2011 9:31 pm

You have all been in our thoughts and prayers all week. We know only to much how difficult it is to lose someone special – and so quickly without warning. We all had supper with dad tonight, and he talked fondly of Emerson, showing us his last Christmas card. I too have fond memories of Emerson, and never tired of his stories (and rants and political peeves!) He will be sorely missed – take care.

Arlene, family and all the Harten Gang

We are so sorry that Emerson has left you all.

Although he was one of my older cousins and we were not close, I have fond memories of visits to the the farm on the I line where he was one of the “big boys”.

Together, Arlene, the two of you have been responsible for many additions to the Harten Clan of which Aunt Annabelle was so proud.

Our thoughts are with you at what I know is a very difficult time.

Hugs

Mary and Harv
