Passed away peacefully in Halifax on September 8, 2019. Born in Halifax, Barbara Hendry Goodman was the youngest daughter of Ralph and Marion Hendry. She was educated at Sir Charles Tupper School and Edgehill, and graduated from Dalhousie (King’s College) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. From there, Barb took courses in secretarial and administrative studies. Most of her working years were at Dalhousie University, but she worked in Montreal for four years. Barb married Albert V. Barb was a member of All Saints Cathedral, Trinity Anglican Church, the Dalhousie Alumni (Women’s Division) and the Waegwoltic Club. Barb was predeceased by a brother, Dr. James McLeod Hendry, a sister, Phyllis Hendry McDonald, and by nieces Pat Hastey and Holly Fairn. Barb is survived by nephews James, Paul, Graeme and Scott Hendry and by niece Barbara (Phoebe) McDonald and families. Burial and a small graveside service will be held at Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Liverpool Nova Scotia on October 26, 2019 at 11am. Reverend Cherry Workman officiating. 1. Marjorie Stone, Professor Emeritus, Department of English, Dalhousie University

My husband Andy Wainwright and I have fond memories of Barbara as a very congenial, collegial, and thoughtful administrative secretary in Dalhousie’s Department of English. Barbara made the lives of busy faculty members much easier through her secretarial skills and pleasant demeanour. With her capable presence, the office functioned smoothly in a time before electronic media when secretaries provided invaluable assistance with reference letters, committee reports, and teaching preparations.
