In loving gratitude for him, we are sharing that Frederic Leroy Giffin, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 19th at the age of 94 in Wildwood, Florida, USA. Dad was born on February 28, 1928 in Sable River, NS, the son of late Robie and Florence (Trefry) Giffin. He lived a long, full life of service and faith. He was passionate about helping people, family visits, and playing cards. He was happily married to Elaine McLeod until her death in 1976. He eventually retired from Bowaters Mersey Paper Company, and then began a new adventure when he married Barbara Scheaffel. They moved to Florida, and this is where he pursued his prison ministry. We will miss his infectious laugh, dry sense of humour, and his Captain’s hat. Dad touched many lives through his “wonderful” outlook on life, faith, and love. We are comforted by visions of a raucous, heavenly crib game with his late siblings, Churchill, Rod, Mona, Charlie, Bruce, and Camillus. He will be missed by his wife, Barbara, sister Pat Giffin (Ron), and his loving daughter Tessa Adams (Mike), Liverpool, NS, five stepdaughters Sandi, Patti, Jean, Meg, and Carol (USA), sons-in-law Len and Dave, grandson Zachary, nieces, nephews, many step-grandchildren. His funeral will take place graveside at the United Baptist Church Cemetery at 205 Church St. in Liverpool on Sunday, October 16 at 1 PM. All are welcome. His memory will always be a blessing.

To be absent from the Body is to be present with the Lord. He’s definitely enjoying a party in Heaven as he joins that great cloud if witnesses cheering us on..
I am really sorry for your loss and know God will provide comfort and for every need you have during this difficult time and your time of mourning.
I haven’t seen Fred for many years but remember him from the Brooklyn Baptist church as a child…always had so much love and compassion.
With blessings and condolences,

Tessa, Mike and family,
I was saddened to read of your Dad’s passing. He was a nice fellow, who many years ago, did the electrical work in our home .It sure sounds like he always kept very busy especially in service to others. May he now rest peacefully.
Thinking of you all at this time and in the days ahead.

Fred was a good man, a hard worker, and religious. He married my first cousin who was named after my Quinn grandmother. He had a hardy laugh and an infectious smile that would draw you in instantly. He also had a long life. My sincere condolences to his family. Please remember the good times and the wonderful memories.

Tessa, Mike and Family
I am saddened to hear of your dads passing. He was a very kind person and was my first Landlord many years ago in Liverpool. I grew up next to your grandparents on MacLeod street and was always welcome in their home. I have great memories of all your family. All wonderful times. My thoughts are with you.

I just read this obituary for your Dad Tessa and it is very lovely and so true to your Dad. I don’t think there was a person who met him who didn’t love his laugh, enjoy his comments or feel good in his presence. To say that he loved you a lot does not actually give a full picture of how proud he was of you and how much time he spent with you. How many times at various activities did we hear his great laugh and enjoy the feeliing this gave us. I was sorry I could not make the service for him but have great memories from our many get togethers in Halifax. Glad you got to go to see him when you could in Florida and glad he got to do a prison ministry…he would have been so helpful doing that. Hugs.
