Giffin, Basil Leon, age 80, of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, passed away on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Philip “Roy” and Cora (Abbott) Giffin.
Basil was employed for many years at Canada Post, starting in Halifax and retiring in Liverpool. Following his retirement from Canada Post, Basil drove for Queens Chrysler as a driver for many years, a job that he loved, found very relaxing and therapeutic. He was a kind and gentle soul with a huge heart who enjoyed doing for others. He was an active volunteer in the community throughout his life time serving in many groups and committees, including the Privateer Days Committee, the Winds of Change, the Astor Theater Committee and the Liverpool Lions Club. Basil was truly one of a kind, he loved to chat, discuss, and debate with friends old and new about anything at anytime and any place. He also loved sports, in particular the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Raptors. Above all, Basil loved his family and was happiest when his children and grandchildren visited or called for a chat. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Basil is survived by daughters, Dawn Cole (Allen Sperry) of Brooklyn, Susan (Michael) Baxter of Quispamsis, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Caitlyn Cole, Brett Baxter and Jack Baxter; brother, Walter (Dianne) of Bridgewater; sister-in-law, Florence Armstrong of West Dover and his bff, Storm.
Basil was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Heather and a brother, Carl in infancy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, January 29th, 2023, at Chandlers’ Funeral Home. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Queens General Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com

Basil was nothing but a absolute gentlemen,,I had the privilege of being part of his life for 15 years working at Queen’s Chrysler and have never met a man that didn’t ever say no to any request we had of him ..he was the most fun first thing in the morning with a fresh coffee and wanting to offer an opinion on anything we talked about ,,I will genuinely miss this kind hearted soul ..he was a good one .. condolences to the family ..he will be missed

He will certainly be missed. He always called me “CUZ” which drove me crazy. Lots of fun on the beach at Louis Head. Great memories for me and my family. He had a great laugh and always enjoyed a joke or two.

I’m sorry to be reading that Basil has died. It hadn’t seen him for years but I have fond and funny memories of working with him on several election campaigns. Door knocking with him when he was a candidate for the NDP and then him door knocking with me when I was the candidate a few years laters.
Basil was a good soul. My condolences to his family.
