Lorraine and I extend our deepest sympathy to Gerald and all the family for their loss. Mary was a true advocate for the small school and she fought hard more than once to keep D7 open when the Board sought to close it. She was on my staff for a number of years, and I appreciated her ability as a teacher and the high principles she held. She will be missed.

We are so deeply saddened by this news. We will miss Mary, her wonderful smile and sense of humour, her deep intelligence and creativity. My parents, Eloise and Leonard Pottie always spoke so highly of both Mary and Gerald and so it has been our privilege to get to know them through the Port Medway Readers Festival. We looked forward to seeing them each year. Mary’s love for and special care of her family will always serve as a model for us. Our deepest condolences to Gerald, James, Lana, Callum, Rowan and Garrett. Mary was a very unique and special lady.

Mary was one of a kind and I sure enjoyed working with her many years ago. We did a lot of laughing and the more ironic something was the harder she would make me laugh. We always had a grand chat when we met over the years and she was always sure to ask about my sons whom she had taught. She will be fondly remembered.
