Dear Wanda and family,
Just a note to send my condolences on Byron’s passing. I have been keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers since Coleen let me know the day after he passed.
I’m sorry for not responding as soon as I heard it. I have no excuse except to say that it hit me like a ton of bricks, even though I knew how sick Byron was and that he had stopped his chemo treatments, as they weren’t helping.
Larry always thought so much of Byron and it seems almost surreal that now, both of them have passed away in the same year – just months apart. It will be a sad Christmas for both of us, even though we wouldn’t wish them back, in the condition that they were in.
I will always remember Byron for his music, although I wasn’t around at the time that the ‘Beltones’ were so popular. However, I remember getting together with Byron, out at his dad’s house, when Larry and I were first married, and having a ‘jam session’ together, which was a lot of fun. Larry and I also attended a Variety Show held at the High-School where Byron was playing and we both felt so proud of him that evening.
Looking back over the years (and they go by so fast!) I regret Larry and I not having taken the time to get together with you and Byron more often. Especially in the early years of our marriage, when Larry and I lived away, and would often come home for a week at a time, staying at Larry’s parents’ home. I would have liked to have gotten to know you better – and I’m sure that it wouldn’t have taken long for you and I to become good friends. … It’s only been during these past few years that Coleen and I have got to know each other as well as we do, so maybe there is hope for us yet! (smile)
I won’t ramble on any longer this time, Wanda, as I’m sure that you have been feeling overwhelmed with all that has taken place during the past few weeks (and for the duration of Byron’s illness before that) Just know that you have many people who care about you and understand your huge loss.
Embrace all the happy memories that you and Byron shared over the years and never forget that a part of Byron will live on (just as Larry does), tucked safely inside of our hearts!
Much love,
Lynn xoxo
Kathy ROGERS
Wanda, Ben and Dan,
I am so sorry to hear of Byron’s passing. I met Byron,
In the early 70’s, when he was a musician in Hamilton , Ontario. It was a big group of friends, who liked music and camping. The long May weekends, rain or shine, we camped. The men of course went into the water, just because they could, cold or not.
We were on your property when you started building your beautiful home, the boys carrying those big logs. You and Byron took us to some of your favourite places, I remember the swimming hole with the rope . All your friends gathered around to see us off. Such a warm loving community.
Dave came back for Byron’s 60th bday, and you welcomed us back 2 years in a row, when Dave had cancer. It was so much fun, watching Byron and Dave sing those Bob Dylan songs. He hadn’t played his guitar in a while, but pulled it out for our visit.
When Dave passed last July, I was so glad we had made that last trip down east.
Hopefully, your friends, family and music will help you, during this difficult time.
All my love,
Kathy Rogers
