Fletcher – George Vincent, age 77, of Mersey Point, Queens County, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, at Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport.
Born in Digby, George was the son of the late George and Jean (Brooks) Fletcher.
George was raised in Bear River and had a happy active childhood that revolved around family events and sports, such as playing hockey on the outside rink, swimming, fishing and baseball and he made many life long friendships.
George moved to Liverpool in 1967 to work at the Stedman’s store. Over the years George worked various jobs, working at Canadian Tire, Cole Ford Sales, Sears until he found a job working as a teachers assistant at Liverpool Regional High School. George loved helping others and getting to know all of the kids in the area and he also loved it when many years later those kids, now grown up, would approach him to say hello and catch up.
Sports played a big part in George’s life. As a dedicated father he spent many hours at the rink and on the ball field coaching or officiating. He also enjoyed watching and cheering on the sidelines especially when his son John was playing. Many conversations were had around town about George’s love of the Montreal Canadiens.
George truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as spending time with friends, meeting new people, going for walks, camping, playing guitar at friends homes and local dances.
George will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends for his kind heart and smile and positive outlook on life. He was always smiling… That smile will be missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet; son, John at home; sisters, Marcia Buckler (Dave Brooks), Nettie Fletcher, both of Bear River; nieces, Heather, Karen, Amanda, Barb, Bonnie, Tammy, Dakota, Jennifer; nephews; Clyde, Scott and John; sisters-in-law, Sylvia (Jr.) Cunningham, Cheryl Webb, Karen Dean (Kevin Weagle), Melinda (David) Brown; brother-in-law, Mike (Debbie) Frelick.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Ann, Shannon, Peggy and Debbie.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A celebration of George’s life will be held on Thursday, October 5th, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with prayers being said at 7:30 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. No flowers by request, donations may be made to Queens General Hospital Foundation or to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. To share memories or condolences please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com.
The family would like to thank Queens General Hospital and Surf Lodge for the exceptional care and love that George received during his time spent there.

Sad news to hear. George was the kindest and always had time for anyone. I vividly remember the chats while visiting Liverpool Rink playing hockey and he always was up for a chat. Janet, John and members of the Fletcher family. We are saddened to read of George’s passing as the abense
of his smile, a joke or brief chat was a welcome part of meeting him and you on the street or in a store. Bill first
met George while umpiring a softball game on Landsdown field in Bear River in the 70’s. George approached him
between innings and inquired about if he brought a Liverpool team to play Bear River if he would be able to be
the umpire. On hearing yes he arranged the game and it was the first of many such games. He met George again
in the eighties on moving to Liverpool and encountered him many times while Georege coached the Liverpool midget team many times with Bill as referee. Bill always considered George a friend. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Fletcher Family,
I am saddened to hear of George’s passing. Condolences to you all!!
George finally found his place when he entered the Education System. George was a friend and colleague that had more friends than anyone else on this earth! On Facebook alone he had 1284 and that’s not including those who don’t have Facebook!!
I knew George from his involvement in the community whether it was watching the Brooklyn Schooners, Liverpool Privateers Baseball or umpiring or refereeing or coaching!
My memories of George are the most Special as he and I became a team when South Queens Junior High came into existence! We had a unique assignment! I couldn’t have done it without George!
I will share two of George’s insights’s on Education!
Mr. Miller! We have to try our hardest to the best of our ability to educate these students because someday you may be watching them change your diaper!
“Okay you Guys! Do your work or you’ll be a “Wamback”! George’s definition of a “Wamback?”. (They make better money with benefits now!! Plus they are very essential to our environment!) George’s definition was.” The guy on the back of a Garbage truck who say.”Wamback”!
We will miss you George Fletcher! You had a unique sense of humour that resonated to everyone you were in touch with!
Sincerely, Jeff Miller

Aw, man…. John, Janet, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve always enjoyed chatting with George and both of you whenever I saw you and when you came in to Pharmasave. The humour, the kindness from all of you; and the quick wit from George really made my day. I’m glad I’ve known you all for as long as I have. Take care.

I met George and Janet when I worked at Sobeys bakery. We became fast friends because anyone that knew George knew how friendly he was. George was always looking for something chocolate from the sample dome.. and if we had something without chocolate on it.. I’d get him something that did… I always looked forward to my daily visit and chat with George and Janet. Some people make an impact on your life and improve it sometimes without even realizing it… George, I’m sure had that effect on a lot of people. I’m going to miss him terribly… he was one of the good ones!!
