The family of Myles Dwyer of Milton, Queens County, Nova Scotia (formerly of Toronto, Ontario) is heartbroken to announce his passing on Monday, January 3rd, 2022, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
Born in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, he was the son of Wesley Dwyer and Isabel Lawlor.
He was predeceased by both his parents and his stepfather, Clifford Doucet.
He was the beloved husband of the late Martin Hilliard (d. 2020).
He is survived by his six siblings: Judy (Mike) of Montreal, Rick (Brenda) of Nackawic, Mona Lee (Richard) of Dalhousie, Peggy Ann (Gino) of Whitby, Karla (Simon) of Dalhousie, and Tammy (Eric) of Dalhousie. He was a sweet and loving uncle to thirteen nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends.
Myles was a kind and gentle soul, well know for his grace and skill on the dance floor. He loved animals; many dogs, always in pairs, were fortunate to be part of the Dwyer-Hilliard family over the years, most recently Wylie and Jamie. He and Martin appreciated the slower pace of their retired life in Milton, hosting guests at their B&B and building friendships in the community. Myles could often be found on his veranda overlooking the river, with a dog on his lap and Martin close by, enjoying one of his favorite cigars.
A private graveyard service will be held this summer in New Mills, New Brunswick.
Offer Condolence for the family of Dwyer; Myles Wesley

So sorry for your loss. Myles and Martin were both great friends. Always enjoyed them coming into the cafe for lunch and a little chat. I worked for both boys for 3 years wiper snipping the yard. They both had a bad habit of sneaking up behind me while I was wiper snipping and scaring the crap out of me. They got great enjoyment of seeing me jump. They both will be sadly missed.

It was our special privilege to know Martin and Myles as dear friends, to attend reciprocal meals and festivities and to attend their wedding. I had invited Myles for Christmas but he declined saying he wanted to be alone.
Myles was heart-broken without Martin and he said himself that they were made for each other.
We find it both incredibly sad and unbelievable that Morton House Inn sits alone on the hill without the energy of these two beloved men of our community.
Tim McDonald
Very, very sad to hear about Myles passing. I remember meeting Myles and Martin when they first arrived in Queens County to start their new adventure at Morton House. They easily and immediately fit into the community and everyone loved them. You knew when you ran into them that it meant a good conversation and a few laughs. So it is with great sadness that after Martin’s passing not long ago, we have now lost Myles, too. My sincere condolences to Myles’ family at this very sad time.

I am so very sad to hear of Myles’ passing. When I was a new principal in TDSB, Myles was a constant source of support and encouragement for me. He guided me through tricky situations with wise advice. He was always available and in every conversation we had, he made me feel that my issue was the most important issue he had to consider. I believe it was the sunshine in his soul that gave Myles his brightness and eternal optimism. I am happy to read of the joy he found in his new home in the East. No one deserved it more.
Anthony Vandyke

To Myles’s family my sincere condolences. I remember meeting these two kind guys at the SuperStore when they first arrived. They were so enthusiastic about the Morton House and it’s history. We exchanged photos and stories. I was able to give them some background as my family would visit cousin Alina Morton and Fred her nephew every summer in the 60’s. We would watch the Milton Days water sports from the porch. Both the guys were generous with their home and held teas etc to support numerous organizations in the community. They did it with grace and kindness. They are a loss to the community. May they rest together.
gordy stefulic
I was saddened to hear the news of his passing. I had the good fortune to work alongside Myles at the TDSB. I learned a great deal from him. I appreciated the depth of his understanding, of not only details required for his job, but for knowing the people with whom he worked. I was happy that he was able to retire and move east and set up a new life for himself. He was sorely missed. His kind heart, his sense of humor and his compassion made his absence pronounced. My sincerest condolences to his family.

I am so saddened by this tragic news. Myles was a beloved colleague and a treasured friend during our years with the Etobicoke Board of Education; he was admired for his brilliant mind, his extraordinary kindness, and his prowess on the dance floor. He amazed us all with his ability to look crisp and turned out even in a staffing crisis. It was wonderful to spend time with him and Martin in their gorgeous home. I was hoping to revisit when this never ending pandemic eventually does end. Deepest condolences to Myles’s family; pleased know that he was beloved by many, many colleagues back in Ontario.

To Myles’s Family & Friends:
On behalf of the Mersey Swing Band I wish to offer sincere condolences for your loss. Myles and Martin opened their beautiful property each year on a Sunday in August so that the Swing Band could do an afternoon concert. We all enjoyed playing at this lovely outdoor venue and I know those who attended were treated with kindness and warmth by both Myles and Martin. We made many memories there and will miss them both.

I am so sorry that Myles has passed away. He and Martin were great friends and always had time to chat. Myles would always ask me “How is your Mom?”. So thoughtful to think of her. I am certain that Myles had many friends who enjoyed his company.

As Myles’s younger sister I would like to say my deepest sympathy for all Myles friends and members of the community and coworkers who have had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man that was hard not to love once you knew him he had a very kind soul and a very big heart. And you always knew at a wedding that you have to book him early because all the women wanted to dance as he could take someone with two left feet and make them feel and look like they are professional dancers. We will miss him terribly but it fills my heart to know how much love and how many people cared about my sweet brother Myles where he and Martin settled for their second chapter of life. Xxxxooo. Thank you
John & Nancy LEEFE
So much good to be said. We have lost a great friend
Janet MacCurdy
It is with a very heavy heart and deep sorrow that I extend my sympathy to Judy, Ricky, Peggy, Karla and Tammy on the death of Myles, and to all his friends in Milton. I find it hard to believe that Myles is gone. I just spoke to him before Christmas, and he said he was doing better. He had sold the B&B and was thinking of moving back to Dalhousie. We were laughing and planning when we would next see one another. I was so excited to think that I would get to see him more if he was living in Dalhousie. Myles and I were high school buddies. When he moved to Toronto, I tracked him down, only to find out we worked nearby one another.. Then, I got together with he and Martin over dinner several times. I also visited with them at the lovely B&B in Milton.
Myles’ birthday is tomorrow February 2. A date etched in my mind forever, as I have been sending him birthday cards for the last 45 years. Such a gentleman, sweet sweet soul. I will miss him dearly. I know how happy he is to be reunited with Martin. With eternal love.
Arnold Witt
This was difficult news for me as I know it has been for anyone that knew Myles. I was very fortunate to have worked with Myles as a Vice Principal and as a Principal in the TDSB. Myles helped me all along the way in my growth track to recruit and inspire new teachers to the Board. Myles’ warmth and belief in our teachers is something I will always take with me and I will never forget to honour what he taught me. My deepest condolences to all his family and close friends.
Cathy Hamblin
I’m deeply saddened by the passing of Myles. I first met Myles in 1976/77 when he started his career with Etobicoke Board of Education and we became friends, he sharing my first born DOB, Feb 2. Eventually, Myles became my boss and we had a great working relationship. He was an awesome mentor and guided me through my career when we merged boards and became TDSB. I truly missed him when he retired to Nova Scotia and upon retiring myself, my husband and I rode our motorcycle to Morton House Inn and had a wonderful visit with Myles, Martin and of course The Dogs! Our second visit to Nova Scotia was September 2019 and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see Myles and Martin.
To the Dwyer Family…my thoughts are with you as you go through the grieving process.
Cathy Hamblin, former Etobicoke/TDSB employee and Friend
