It is with heavy hearts and sadness we must announce the peaceful passing of Grace Anne (MacDonald) Dwyer 76, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax on Thursday March 7, 2024, with her family by her side.
Grace was born in Liverpool to the late Lawrence and Elva (Swim) MacDonald.
She was a graduate of Liverpool Regional High School and spent most of her working carrier as an Assembly Technician at Hermes Electronics in Dartmouth then later as a home support worker where she made many lifelong friendships.
To say that Grace was proud of her Scottish heritage would be a giant understatement. Known as the family genealogist, she spent countless hours diving into the family history and finding all the links between family members. She made numerous trips to Scotland and British Iles deepening her connection to her Scottish background. She was also a founding member of 1786 Alexander MacDonald Society and was a proud member of Clan Donald Canada.
Grace had a special place in her heart for all animals, always having pets both cats and dogs. She had a fiery passion for sports keeping up mostly on football, baseball, hockey but saving the most praise (and criticism) for her beloved Montreal Canadiens. Besides genealogy her other favorite hobby was hockey cards. She could always be counted on in attendance at the monthly shows and Sunday markets. She spent most or her life in Halifax – Dartmouth but she was always happiest on warm, sunny, summer days at the cottage in Port Joli.
Grace is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Gerald “Gerry” Dwyer, son Ryan Dwyer, grandchildren Owen Dwyer, Nadia Hiemstra, Sophie Gray, Luc Gray, Allison Laura, and Bryanna Marie.
As per Grace’s request, cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday March 13, 2024, at 1pm in Chandlers Funeral Chapel, Liverpool with a reception to follow. Burial to take place at a later date in Dartmouth.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the numerous health care workers, home care workers and staff at Victoria General Hospital for their countless hours of care. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dartmouth SPCA. Online condolences may be made below.
Grace, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend will be dearly missed by all who knew her and who were touched by her big, warm heart and generosity.
