Dorey, Sybil Mildred “Billie” – Liverpool, peacefully passed away on October 3rd, 2022 at the Queens Manor.
Born in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Sybil (Young) Dorey.
Billie lived with her brother Vernon and his wife Maxine for 16 years in Shelburne from 1960 to 1976 helping to raise their four children, Margo, Douglas, Sharon and Heather while they both worked. Billie then moved back to Liverpool to take care of her aging mother until her mother’s passing in 1988. Although she never married she took care of many of her nieces and nephews over the years and they considered her like a mother to them.
Billie worked as a house keeper for several families in Liverpool over the years. She also knitted beautiful wool sweaters that sold in a store in downtown Liverpool. She loved to play the guitar and sing with her friends and family. Many a kitchen party was had at her home on Old Port Mouton Road. Her home was always open to her family and friends and it was always the gathering place for people travelling from near and far. Always a cup of tea or coffee and a cookie was offered.
Billie is survived by her sister, Florence Foster of Liverpool and her sister-in-law Maxine Dorey of Dartmouth. Billie is also survived by Heather DeBay and Sharon Dorey of Liverpool, Margo Dorey of Shediac, NB and Douglas Dorey of Calgary, AB who she always called her kids.
Besides her parents, Billie was predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Robert, Vernon and Gordon and sister, Pearl (Anthony).

Dear Dorey family, We both were saddened by the loss of your family member. It is strange, in a good way that we live across from Billie’s late sister Pearl Anthony. I went there with my dad Mickey Hartlen to visit and have picnics at Pearls. Norman always said what great neighbours they were and that included the Dorsey’s! I can remember being at the house on Port Mouton road, having fun with all of her young relatives. She sure could play a tune, maybe that is where I got my love of music! Thanks for being in our lives Billie and Pearl! With love. Bonnie Hartlen and Norman Rafuse.

We lived at the top of Old Port Mouton Rd The entire Dorey family will forever be near and dear to my heart. As a child, going to play with Mary, we would always visit Billie. You couldn’t leave without getting cookies. Since leaving the hill i would stop in and visit so she could share her cookies with my son. Her nickname for me was “Debbie, King’s kid”
May you rest in peace beautiful lady.❤
