To the Dobson Family:
Harold was a wonderful man, very intelligent and always an inspiration. We use to have long talks about his hobbies, like Bee Keeping. I use to ask his advice on municipal affairs also. He had quiet nature and unique way of communicating. He very seldom made hasty decisions. I remember seeing him walking along Bristol Avenue when he was healthier. He probably would rather be casting his fishing line on some stream or river hoping to make the big catch. We were all blessed by his friendship.

Condolence from Marjorie Speed Powell on April 17th, 2013 3:58 am

Dear Nancy and Family,

I am sorry to hear about Harold’s passing. I always thought of him as “the tree man” and, when I lived there, so enjoyed all the trees he had planted at 88 Bristol Avenue. When the peach tree, that he had planted, fell down from old age and being overburdened with the most wonderful peaches, he came and planted another one for us. Its peaches, I’m sure, are still being enjoyed by the present owner. Also he came and spent time with my son Alex in the garden, explaining about grafting. Alex is still very interested in trees. Harold leaves a great legacy in so many ways.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Nancy and Family

We were sorry to hear about the passing of Harold. We have many fond memories of him. One was the first time I met Harold over lunch in Stephenville Newfoundland. Much of the conservation was about all the “Newfie” food I had tried. I may be the only person hired because of the food I ate!! We also rember the time Glenys would not let Harold go back to the hotel when we were all in New York in 1989.

Harold touched many people over his life. May your cherished memories ease your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you

Condolence from Fred Giffin on April 18th, 2013 3:19 pm

Mentor, friend and role model. Harold was all these to me for so many years, from the time I arrived in Liverpool in 1963 to work for Harold, and through all our association and responsibilities at Bowater. Harold was a knowledgeable and dedicated scientist, great on details, with a quiet but unmistakable sense of humour.
Harold’s attention to detail away from work led him to tell stories of catching a salmon, with such colour, you almost felt like you were there.

To Nancy and all the family, my sincere condolences. We have lost a great friend, and a wonderful community leader.

Condolence from Howie and Anne Lee on April 18th, 2013 10:08 pm

Dear Dobson Family;

The world has lost a wonderful, gentle man. Harold’s many acts of kindness to me — not least carrying a very young me home in his arms after I ran into a car (or the other way around?) while chasing bubbles in front of the Dobson home on Church Street a million years ago — will never be forgotten. I feel lucky to have known him, and extend my sincere condolences to all of you (and with a special shout out to Warren, David, Alan, Stephen, Joy and Neil, whose friendship I enjoyed so much growing up).

Howie
