DOBSON – David Murray, 68, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool with his loving wife Judy by his side.
Dave was a musician who was blessed to have made a life doing what he loved. He enjoyed photography, fly fishing and spending time at the cabin his father built. After being diagnosed with cancer, Dave spent one last summer at the cottage enjoying the beauty of nature and working on music with his brother, Steven. The song “I Did It My Way” describes his life.
Dave is survived by his mother Nancy Dobson, his wife Judy (Francis), his children Lisa and Jamie of Halifax. His brothers Warren, Alan, Steven, Neil and his sister Joy Melanson.
He was predeceased by his father Harold.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, where a celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. so people can gather to remember Dave in story and song. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food bank. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
Special thanks to Dr. Mogan for her care and compassion during Dave’s illness.

So sorry and sad to hear about Dave’s passing , I played with David back in sandy road days , and David moulded my career from back then , he taught me how to sing , he helped me with my homework as I was still in school , I learned better from dave than the teachers , we traveled with Alan westlake and john lake , and besides playing music together we laughed just as much ! R.I.P. David you were a rock and the voice of reason for all of us thanks for being A mentor and a friend ❤️❤️❤️ Bruce Dixon

Dear Nancy, Judy, Warren, Alan, Steven, Neil, Joy, Lisa and Jamie,
I am so sorry to be reading David’s obituary. Nancy, my heart goes out to you as one mother to another, knowing just how precious your family is to you and how heartbreaking this loss must be for you. The family that you and Harold raised was a family who influenced so many of us, both young and old. Those in my age group grew up knowing at least one or two of the Dobson ‘kids’ very well, but thinking of them all as friends. My love and prayers are with you at this very sad time in your life. Judy, it was such a joyful surprise to see the announcement of your marriage to David, but I’m sure that you were hoping for more time with him. Just know that you made David very happy and that your love ‘completed’ him. Treasure the time that you had together and hold those precious memories close to your heart. Warren, thank you so much for messaging me, encouraging me to ‘have a listen’ to the new album that Steven and David were working on when it became available on YouTube. I was hooked the first time that I listened to it! What came through was not just the music (if you were about to listen to musician who came from the Dobson family, you could depend on it being something to look forward to) Instead, I heard two Dobson brothers, who were having a blast writing and singing these songs together, and claiming that last ‘hurrah!” I have returned to that YouTube site many times since, and just listening to Steven and David’s music makes me smile once again. I’m sure that David’s music will continue to speak to hearts for years to come. Alan (Chuckie, as we referred to you ‘back in the day’) how blessed you were to have had these great brothers to share your life with, as you were growing up and knowing that it is a love that is still going strong after all of these years! And Joy, what ‘joy’ you must have brought to your dear Mother, to finally have a daughter, after having so many boys! I don’t know if that’s why she gave you that name, but I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if that was a factor. Whatever your brothers thought when you first arrived on the scene, it’s easy to see that they all love you dearly and they will always be there for you during the good times and the bad. Neil, I didn’t know you quite as well, but just knowing that you grew up with these ‘characters’ makes me think you fit in quite nicely, as well. And finally, Lisa and Jamie, you don’t need me to tell you that you have lost a very special Dad. It’s not always about how many years that we have with a parent, but knowing that they loved us. (and he did). David was a Son, a Brother, a Father and a Husband to be proud of, but I’m sure that you all know this only too well and will continue to carry a part of him in your hearts always. To the rest of us, he was a friend, a very talented musician, an old high-school buddy, and an all-round good person, who will be missed, but not forgotten. My condolences, as well as my love and prayers, are with you all as you go through this very sad time in your lives.
Sincerely,
Lynn xoxo

For many years, there wasn’t a Saturday afternoon that I wasn’t at The Hub in Dartmouth playing pool, singing and dancing along to Dave & Dave. David was not only an amazing vocalist and photographer, he was the best representative of a human that I’ve ever met. We became fast friends, having long conversations about almost any topic. One of my favourite memories was me leaving O’Carroll’s at the end of the night (sober), after a King’s Ransom gig, fumbling my keys in the car door lock and having them drop into the sewer underneath my car. Of course, the Daves were just driving away and I was running down Lower Water Street chasing after them. They stopped thank goodness and got me home safe and sound with prayers that I was able to find my keys the next day. I took a lot of ribbing from Mr. Dobson for a long time after that. He even brought in this huge piece of circular tubing (about 12″ in diameter) so that I could attach my keys to it and never have them drop down a drain again. My thoughts go out to the entire Dobson clan. Dave’s legacy will live on.
Debee Ramey (Henneberry)
David was a great talent who will be greatly missed. He was a great person.

What a gift it was to get to make music with Dave. It was so easy to connect with him when we were singing together, and those memories are excellent. Dave was a great musician and a truly nice person. Somehow he managed to be upbeat and relaxed at the same time – not many people pull that off. We feel lucky to have known him and so sad it couldn’t have been for longer.
Rick Henneberry

I am so shocked and saddened by this news. I met Dave many years ago when he was doing his music. He was a great singer/songwriter/musician and photographer. He taught my grandson to play guitar for free and would tell him to come whenever he wanted to learn something new and Conner was there every week. He is still very thankful for those lessons. Dave also produced a demo of my songs for me that I treasure. My sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. God bless you and keep you.

My deepest condolences to the Dobson family. I consider myself very fortunate to have known Dave as well as I did and regret having lost touch in recent years. My contact occurred during the ROX years which I will always cherish. Dave was one of a kind. A soft, gentle, mild mannered and understated speaking voice shrouded the beast of a rock and roll singer released on stage. In my last conversation with Dave he spoke lovingly about his family and his return to Liverpool. I will cherish my memories.

Dear Aunt Nancy and family, I was so sorry to hear about Davids passing. I was his hairdresser for a time when we both lived in Halifax and we had many laughs together, one fellow hairdresser came over and asked me if I knew David and had I ever heard him sing “Tequila Sunrise” with his acoustic guitar, he commented on what a beautiful clear voice he had. I had the pleasure of following David around Halifax when he performed, from beautiful clear solos to hard Rock n’Roll…he could do it all.
He will be missed by so many people, hopefully the memories you all have will bring you comfort now and into the future.
Love

I was so sorry to hear this. My condolences to all the Dobson’s and Dave’s circle of friends. I have so many memories of growing up with Dave. We were in a lot of classes together. A little while back while passing the mill here (a former Bowater’s mill) I could smell the thermal pulp and thought of the summer Dave and I were student workers in the mill. We ate lunch together most of that summer, out on one of the wharves and I can remember us laughing at the antics of the gulls when we threw them our bread crusts. All my memories of Dave make me smile. They also make my heart ache.

I have not really known what to say these last few days, Dave’s passing has hit me like it has so many. I have known Dave since I was a young teen and he has always be someone who I looked up to and was proud to call a friend. The few times I got to play some music with him was special. Reading so many comments here and on various sites shows how special he was to many and that he won’t be forgotten.
My condolences to his family.

Somewhere in the depths of my basement is an old Sandy Road poster. I admired his talent and he had a great voice.
Dave once sang me a John Prine song and I was hooked. I once gave him a book by Solzhenitsyn on his birthday., which I recall he liked. Such a long time ago when I lived in Liverpool.
Rest In Peace Dave.

I will never forget one evening jamming with David for over an hour at the cottage in Greenfield. He didn’t have to jam with a hack like me, but it was just indicative of what a kind and generous person he was. So sad that he has left us way too soon. Fortunately we all have fond memories of his talents and his warm personality. I hope that they are of consolation to his family during this difficult time. My sincere sympathy to you all.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. (Unknown)
It was always a fun time jamming with you, Dave. May the heavens rejoice in the sound of your music!
Bruce and Peggy MacKinnon
Peg and I were very saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. We met Dave through musical friends and got to know him as a talented, soft spoken musician with a kind heart. He mentored me in the world of digital recording, I subbed for him on some gigs over the years and we shared some good times with mutual friends in the music community. Was honoured to be there for his 60th bday jam at the Hart and Thistle a few years back. Always enjoyed hearing him sing and regret having lost touch in recent years. He was a special talent and will be greatly missed. Sincerest condolences to Dave’s family from the MacKinnon clan.

Carol & Patrick Ezekiel
Sincere condolences to all Dave’s family. We can’t imagine the profound loss you feel. We didn’t know Dave well but enough to know how kind, generous and special he was! And, talented! We first met at O’Carrol’s Bar and Grill in Halifax about 10 years ago and we’re blown away when we heard him sing Unchained Melody. He topped the Righteous Brothers. Just could not believe what we were hearing!
That Summer we planned to renew our 40 year wedding vows in our backyard with about 80 family and friends attending. We wanted to ask Dave to come and play Unchained Melody. Knowing how busy and in demand Dave was it was really just wishful thinking. Our son – in- law, Jamie Thomsom, asked Dave who said yes but would have to get there between two other gigs he had that day. Dave came with a big smile and made our day. Thank you dear, sweet Dave❣️
A wise man said that ‘Music is a way our memories sing to us across time!’ You will never be forgotten!
