Dear Matthew & Brittany – I was so sorry to hear of Beth’s passing. She was a great lady who absolutely loved you both so very much. In the short time that I knew her, I found her to be an incredibly faithful woman who was trying so hard to live a good life and to make each day count. Our conversations always circled back to you and what you were up to, and she always looked forward to going out to see you at the old house. Know that you are in my prayers and although I cannot be there, I am with you in spirit.

Matthew, we are both thinking of you..I don’t know if you knew this, but i worked at the Horseshoe Tavern with both your mom and your dad back in 1978.Now i’m telling my age…smiles . I already knew your dad but not your mom. After i started working there, we got to know each other. We got along very well. She was a beautiful, gorgeous, & vivacious woman . She was very quiet but once i got to know her, she opened up a bit. We had some very good times and loads of laughs.Beth was very proud of you and i could see that love in her smile, everytime she spoke of you.Now you can smile when you think of her and remember all the good times and the laughter.Your mom is no longer in pain and is at peace. God Bless your Mother, Beth.

Matthew, I knew your Mom & Dad right back to the old Mersey tavern days and we had a lot of good times together. Beth loved you more than life, you was what made her laugh and she was so proud of you and she loved Brittany like a daughter. She came into the Advance office to buy extra copies of the story done on Brittany so she could send them to the family and brag. I hope wherever she is that she has found the peace and tranquility she sought for so long. Rest in Peace Beth and know that she will always be watching over both of you. Susan

    Matthew,
I am so very sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I can honestly tell you “I know how you feel” and mean it. In just 6 days time my family will be celebrating the first anniversary of my Mom’s passing, so it is still very fresh in our hearts also. Hang on to all the good times, laugh often about all the silly things you remember and when your ready you will also find yourself being able to say “oh sometimes she would make me so angry when ………. and then laugh about it. Because good or bad, happy or sad they are our mothers and we love them with all our heart and soul. I send you lots of love and blessings as you go through the transition about to take place over the next little while. You beautiful wife Brittany will be by your side every step of the way, and that my dear is a very good thing to have. Take care. xo

When Beth came to Nova Scotia she lived in an apartment in the Mersey Hotel and worked for my parents, Leonard and Eloise Pottie in the Mersey Tavern. My father trusted her completely and she never let him down. Beth was honest and decent and her family should be very proud of the memories we hold of her. My father often waited up when she delivered the cash box at night (seems to me the tavern closed at 11pm-how different now!) just so he could talk to her, to hear her accent, to talk about the Boston States, hoping she might talk Red Sox! Because Beth was someone you could talk to, who would give you a straight answer and Beth was far from home. She talked with love of her family, of her father who was a policemen, her mother and her sisters. Beth was also a devoted mother and set a wonderful example for Matthew-I remember being so impressed to see Matthew’s name as a volunteer in the community even when he was a teenager. My mother, Eloise Pottie, and I send our deepest condolences to Matthew and Brittany and to Beth’s mother Carmen and sisters Myra, Carolyn and Charlotte. We will miss her. And I will miss her memories of my father.

    Dearest Matt and Brittany
I remember when Beth asked me to show her how to make rice krispy squares, because U liked mine, but not store bought ones. Once they were in the pan, she asked me what temperature to set the oven! OO- did we giggle over that!
So many times over the years,we’d connect- our love for you bonding us forever ,she was as good a mom as she could be,she was funny, quirky, and giving.
I truly believe she is watching over you, proud as a peacock of the man you turned out to be,and the man you’ll become. She told me she thought Brittany was a wonderful girl, and would be the perfect wife!
If you need me,please don’t hesitate to call on me- You are our ‘baby of the family’,and we love you dearly.
    luv,Big Sis ox

    To Beth’s family

Since Beth moved to Town in the apartment above our office we have enjoyed our many visits with her. She greeted us every morning upon arriving for work and was there to see us head off for home at the end of the day. Her many beauty secrets and exercise tips, her love for her family in the states (especially her mom) and of course, Matthew, were just a few things which she loved to share with us. We will miss our daily chats, her friendly smile and her sincere appreciation for people who helped her.

    Dear Matthew,

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I have some very fond memories of Beth when we would visit at the old house. You have changed so much from the funny,be it sometimes obnoxious boy i knew in grade 6 who made all of us hunt the black thing of the old graveyard in Hunt’s Point, too such a calm, gentle and determined young man. Beth had so much to be proud of in you her son and wherever she may be know I bet she is happy and at peace.
