CROOKER – DAVID L.    NSLS CLS (retired)  passed away peacefully in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater  Friday, March 11, 2011.

Born in Brooklyn, Queens County, he was a son of the late Leander and Mary (Waterman) Crooker.

David was an avid volunteer and participated in many organizations in every community in which he lived.  His favourite activities included children, history, the church, and the outdoors.  He was a cub-scout and 4-H leader, member of the South Brookfield United Baptist Church, and a member of many other community organizations too numerous to mention.  He also participated in local and regional politics and was respected in everything he did.  His family and his community were the most important things in his life and he devoted himself to making both the best that they could be.

Survived by: wife, Sharon; daughters; Queena (Ken Smith), Alison(Rawding), Sharon (Tim MacQuarrie), Erin (Jason Mansfield), and Davonna and Murphy; grandchildren; Stephen and David Smith, Kyle and Mason Rawding, Connor and Taegen  MacQuarrie, Avery and Kale Mansfield.  Sisters: Blanche (Pierre) Alaine, Pauline (Gordon) Fevens, Lena (Allen) Oickle, Bertha (Kenny) Wile, Carolyn (Vic) Adams, and Brother  Jim (Anne) Crooker.

He was predeceased by son-in-law Terry Rawding.

Visitation will be this evening (Monday, March 14th, 2011) from 7 until 9 p.m. and funeral service will be Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. both at  South Brookfield United Baptist Church, Highway #8.  Reverend Dean Annis officiating. Burial will be in South Brookfield Community Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Mechanic’s Masonic Hall, Caledonia  following committal.  In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name can be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia or South Brookfield United Baptist Church. Condolence from Bruce and Sylvia on March 12th, 2011 3:35 pm

Bruce and I send our heartfelt condolences to David’s family. Though we only knew him a short time from our involvement with the museum David was one who made us feel we knew him for years. He knew so much history of our area and I could listen to him talk all day about it. A great story teller, he had this way that made you feel you were actually standing in the place as he was telling the story or talking to the person of whom he spoke. He had such a passion for history , and put so much of himself into whatever he did, especially his volunteering . He truly will be missed and was one of our areas greatest assets. Rest in peace David , you served your community well.

I was saddened to hear today that David had passed away.

Condolence from Anita and Greg MacQuarrie on March 13th, 2011 10:59 am

I’m happy we had a chance to talk to David since he was diagnosed with ALS.It was a comfort to hear him talk about his faith and having no regrets. It must be a comfort to you as well.He taught Bren and Beck in Sunday School and we still remember his words of wisdom.David was so interesting to talk to,because he knew all the details about who was who, where they lived and what impact they had on their community. My favorite memory of David was from an Easter breakfast, long ago.Beck and I couldn’t eat all our sausages and David kindly agreed to eat them. That small act of kindness was what David was all about. He was always the same,no matter what day of the week it was and had we asked him for something monumental,he’d have helped us, with love.I’m thankful you have such a tight knit family to help each other through this transition.I’m also thankful that David is now enjoying the peace and rest,in the presence of The Divine, that he so deserves.

Dear Sharon and Family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss, David was a fine man and he truly will be missed by all.

Watching the slide presentation brought back many memories for me about the wonderful times we spent on the North / South Brookfield Pastorate. What a wonderful celebration of his life.

As I looked at the picture of you and David cutting a cake in the South Brookfield Church there in the background stands my dear Mother, who has been with her Lord for 11 years now. But thanks be to God because of his LOVE for us, we will meet again.

Remember always, that this is not goodbye and its because of God’s mercy and His grace….we will meet again.

My heart goes out to you all at this time, you will be in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Love Always,
Violet (Sullivan) Beattie & Family
