
COOMBS – George A., 60, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by his side.
Born in Liverpool, he was the son of Louisa B. (Dexter) Coombs and the late Gerald F. Coombs.
After his schooling, George joined the R.C.A.F. and was stationed in Chatham, NB and later posted to St. Jean, PQ. Where he trained as an Aero Engine Technician. Studies completed, he returned to Chatham as a corporal. Upon his discharge, he moved to beautiful British Columbia where he worked on sea and land for a few years before being offered position with Vancouver Central City Mission Health Care. He remained there for 30 years retiring in 2007. George loved to travel and returned to Nova Scotia for most vacations. He loved the cottage in Greenfield on beautiful Ponhook Lake enjoying boating and fishing as well as family and friends. He was a member of the Brooklyn Baptist Church.
Surviving besides his mother is his beloved son Richard W.A. of Chilliwack, BC. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 26th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from Brooklyn Baptist Church. Reverend Stephen Hopper officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Victorian Order of Nurses, Queens County Branch, Brooklyn Baptist Church or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
