Cochrane, Patricia Jane (Seldon), was born in 1933 to A. Laurence and Alberta (Smith) Seldon of Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Pat graduated from Liverpool High School followed by a bachelor degree from Acadia University where she met life long friends and the love of her life, King Cochrane. After Acadia, Pat moved briefly to Montreal prior to marrying King and ultimately returning to Liverpool where she and King raised four children and became strong contributors to the Liverpool community.

Pat was a big believer in giving back to her community. She volunteered to a diverse range of groups from the Winds of Change Drama Society, Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool Hospital Auxiliary, School Board, Children’s Aid, to the Acadia Alumni Board and generously supported many more.

Pat will be missed by a great number of people. Always the life of the party, she truly loved her friends and enjoyed making new ones. Never one to let the world pass her by, Pat travelled extensively, realized many of her dreams and was game for just about anything including zip lining at 80! Her hobbies over the years included being a dedicated horse show / basketball / hockey mom, old bottle archeologist, avid swimmer, curler, bowler, over night canoe tripper, skier and passionate sailor. In her later years she was active in the Seaside Bridge Club and the Seaside Strummers Ukulele group.

Pat is survived by her sister Lynn Seldon of Liverpool, and her four children, Lynn Cochrane (Barry Taylor) of Chester, Jamie Cochrane (Barbara Meagher) of Bridgewater, Larry Cochrane (Katharina Seitz) of Liverpool, Jill Swain (Graeme Swain) of Ardoise and her beloved grandchildren, Emma, Katie, Mark, Carter, Franci and Sammy. Her passing leaves a huge hole in all our hearts.

A service will be held Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, at 11:00am, from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool. Those attending Pat’s service are reminded that COVID-19 protocols are in place. Please wear a mask, hand sanitize, provide contact tracing information and practice physical distancing wherever possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Queens General Hospital Foundation or to Trinity Anglican Church.

In lieu of a reception following the service the family would like to invite you to join them in a Celebration of Pat’s Life on September 18th, at 2:00 pm at her home in Liverpool. It was Pat’s request that a Jimmy Buffet theme set the tone of the event so colorful is the key word here.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jamie McKinnon, Natalie Brooks (Palliative Care), VON, and her dedicated team of care givers, Betty Tarr, Gail Hemeon, Bev Hann and Howard Pearson. Each in their own way helped make a difficult time much easier.

Condolence from Crystal Conrad on August 11th, 2021 11:09 pm

Larry, Jamie and family.
My heart goes out to you at this time.
My fondest memory of your mom, is truly a Pat Cochrane moment. I was leaving the boathouse from swimming one afternoon on my bicycle, as I rounded the corner near your cottage, a dirt bike collided with me
Throwing me into the woods. There I lay howling…I look up and see your mom, dressed in a yellow pantsuit. High heels, and a wonderful yellow brimmed hat. She made her way into the ditch to soothe me, then drove me to my mom.
A few choice words for the guy on the bike I may add.
I never forgot her kindness and compassion.
My deepest sympathies
Crystal Conrad.

I just read the sad news about the passing of your mum. She was such an incredible, vibrant individual who always had a lovely, ready smile. As a boy I used to walk down from our cottage in Greenfield to yours just to see that smile.

While the light of that smile is now gone the light and love that she shone on you, your respective families and grandchildren shines forever on. Celebrate that light, Pat’s life, and her story and she will forever shine on.

Love and strength to you all during this dark time.

Condolence from George Morrison on August 12th, 2021 8:17 pm

Dear Jamie, Lynn, Larry, Jill;
I was saddened to hear of Mrs Cochrane’s passing. She will always be Mrs Cochrane in my memories, down at the end of Waterloo Street with a busy household that was welcoming to the kids on the street like myself. Football games in the front yard and horses in the back there was always a source of fascination to be found. Mrs Cochrane was kind and welcoming, a fun loving wonderful person with a twinkle in her eye, a little tease and a huge sense of humour.
King showed me how to shoot straight and drove me to many hockey games in Bridgewater before the rink was built. I was honoured to set the birds for King on one of his final hunts at Indian Garden Farms preserve many years ago.
Jamie introduced me to woodcock hunting over an English Setter setter in high school and it never wore off. Today I have some Setters of my own.
Although I know there is great sadness with your mother’s passing at this time there is greater joy in the memories of a wonderful mother and a life well lived.
Thank you Mrs Cochrane and the Cochrane family for the friendship and fun.
George and Marianne Morrison

We are so very saddened to hear of Pat’s death. A poised, beautiful, funny woman who was also a partner in crime with our mother. The antics and shenanigans of the two have helped us manage our broken hearts. It just seemed like Pat was ageless. To say that she will be missed is an understatement. I have a feeling that there is a lot of dancing, laughing and bridge playing happening, with people that have been waiting for her to join them. To the Cochrane family, our sincere condolences and love. Sincerely, Lorna & Stewart

Lynn, Jamie, Jill and Larry, I am shocked to read of your mom’s passing. I am sitting on the porch at the cottage and remembering very many years during which I was fortunate to have enjoyed a lot of her joy of life and her fun and her advice. A five o’clock rum on the deck with Pat was always welcome. The loon is calling through the mist this morning on a calm lake, perhaps it’s joining me in saying Godspeed.

Condolence from Wendy Wickwire on August 13th, 2021 3:05 pm

Dear Lynne, Jamie, Larry and Jill,

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Pat’s death on Wednesday. With most 80-somethings, it’s expected but with Pat it was the opposite: she seemed to bypass the aging process altogether. She always brimmed with youthful enthusiasm and energy. Did she ever stop poking fun? Did she ever stop smiling? Maybe that was her secret formula! In Christmas letters, we told Pat to expect us for a visit the following summer. Alas, we didn’t follow through and we will all regret that for a long time. On Wednesday afternoon, Donnie Scott (who also lives in Victoria) dropped by for a visit and, as per usual, we got reminiscing about growing up in Liverpool. For some reason, it triggered a long account of the wonderful Pat Cochrane. Two hours later, we walked in the house to news that she had died. Given how tough it’s been for our family to process this loss, we can’t imagine how tough it’s been for you and your kids. She was a one-of-a-kind sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and community member. Please know that we will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Lynn, Jamie, Larry, Jill and family. Michelle and I are very saddened by the loss of your Mom. We recently had a good catch up with her on the phone and it was wonderful. You Mom held a very special place in my heart and was an important mentor when I was going through some difficult times in my life. We had so many good chats and yes a few of those were with a good drink in hand. I have fond memories at the horse shows of her taking care of all of us.and the fun we all had with her and your Dad. Who could forget at Windsor Exhibition when she invited the Carlton Show Band over for a drink at the trailer and we ended up driving them home to their motel.
Mothers teach us many things but what they don’t teach us is how to move forward without them. We are lucky to have had them so long into our adult lives and that is a special gift. Take care of each other as you move forward in to next stages of your life.with out her. She and your father are in all of you and always will be. Hugs and Love Esther and Michelle

To Pat’s family – so sorry for your loss. I met Pat when I moved to Liverpool to be close to my mom. Mom considered Pat one of her close friends. They were best friends in school and reconnected in later years. Pat was always fun to be around. She and mom had lots of laughs that I was glad to be a part of.

Dear Lynne Jamie, Larry and Jill:

Heartfelt condolences to you all. Pat was a special person with such a beautiful soul in so many ways. Someone that always makes you feel special and important is what Pat transcended to me and my family.
We will never forget her warm and welcoming smile every time we saw her. She seemed to have that “Patented” smile on full time, uniquely warming and sincere, giving way to genuine love and compassion, particularly towards those close to her and those in need.
We have lost a beautiful soul but the memories of such a caring and generous person is an example to follow and will live on forever.

……. another ICON moves along. We were fortunate enough to have grown up in Liverpool across the street from the Seldons. Over the years Pat raised the bar, becoming a quality Lady well worthy of admiration and respect. Marylin, Richard and Margi join me in extending our condolance – and a thank you for setting an example.

Condolence from Christian, Tanja, Leonie und Max Seitz on August 14th, 2021 5:26 pm

Dear Larry, dear Loni,
dear Cochrane family,
when we heard that Pat is in a bad health condition, we wrote down some last words to her. Even though we knew that you only had a few days left with her, hearing about her death was a shock and made us very sad. It is always hard to lose a loved one, but it’s especially hard to lose a loved parent that you share so many beautiful memories with. Even though you are going through a hard time right now, it’s these beautiful memories with Pat that will stay with you forever. Those memories will give you the strength to be able to get through this hard time and look into the future, knowing that Pat would have wanted that. We will cherish all of the great times we got to spend with Pat, even though due to the distance it sadly weren’t that many.

Our thoughts are with you and with Pat, who we will keep in our hearts forever.
We’re sending you many hugs and hope that we will be able to see each other soon.
Christian, Tanja, Leonie and Max

Your Mom was awesome! Such energy and kindness. Both your Mom and Dad entertained all of us young ones on those Sugarloaf adventures. Laughter and smiles were always at hand. Last I saw your Mom was when I was giving blood in Halifax and she was working to make sure I had enough cookies and juice to get through the rest of the day. It is indeed sad to learn of Pat’s passing, but “wow” she made so many people happy. We will miss her. Take care of yourselves. We are thinking of all of you!

Dear Lynn. Jamie, Larry, Jill and families: Memories of Liverpool and, especially, the Waterloo Street area flood into our minds and hearts, as we remember Pat and King, both such vital members of that community. Our thoughts go to you in your loss. Your mother was an amazing person, whose sense of humour and friendship transformed every situation. We knew Pat as a parent, neighbour, in Winds of Change. especially when she was a Hot Box Dancer with Marilyn Large in ‘Guys and Dolls’ and had to make a solo entry when she’d lost her earring! More recently, we knew Pat as a painter with her buddy, Audrey Milford. Such happy memories of a remarkable personality and friend.

Our love and best wishes, Terry & Stephanie Hurrell
