Clarke – Margaret “Peggy” Ann, age 76, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30th, 2019, in Liverpool.
Born June 6, 1943, the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Richards.
Peggy grew up in Digby and Halifax, moving to Liverpool in 1961. It was while working at the former Mersey Hotel, that she met Christopher her husband of 58 years. Peggy was an active community member, serving as president of the ACW, Trinity Anglican Church and president of the Queens County Pony Club. She designed and sewed costumes for the Winds of Change helping to bring many artistic productions to life on stage. She was a dedicated volunteer to the Canadian Cancer Society for over 20 years. She spent many hours working with patients themselves, ensuring they were well supported and comfortable. Lastly, she was a long-term volunteer to the Queens General Hospital, welcoming people and helping them find their way to their appointments.
Marriage and motherhood led her into a life of horseshow jumping, high-end gardening, hunting, basketball and dogs – lots and lots of dogs. She was the family’s foundation supporting her husband and daughters – Teresa and Julia – steadfastly as they advanced and grew. She was an amazing grandmother to Claudia and Ian, both of whom loved her dearly and have “missed” Grammie since the reality of Alzheimer’s took hold. And we’d be remiss not to mention her enjoyment of bowling and her regular weekly games with the “Bowling Bags”.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Christopher; daughters, Teresa of Liverpool, Julia (Bradley) Watt of Brookside, NS and by her grandchildren, Claudia and Ian Watt
She was predeceased by a brother, Col. Robert Richards.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool. Reverend Judy Cross officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Queens Manor. Visit www.chandlersfuneral.com to share memories or offer condolences to Peggy’s family.
Peggy’s family would like to extend sincerest thanks to Dr. Woodford and the Queens Manor staff for the excellent care she received whilst a resident in the Manor.

Christopher, Teresa and Julia:
I didn’t really know Peggy very well; the Digby years are sketchy; she had already grown up and moved away from home by the time I got to know and love her mom and dad. Dottie and Jimmy’s close friendship with my parents withstood the test of time…from both couples’ weddings in the war years to several decades later at Ponhook Lake and Halifax. I do remember lovely Peggy dropping by the cottage for visits from Liverpool, looking radiant and we’d share stories….such a delight. Simply put, I thought Peggy was elegant, yes, even in her summer shorts!
My brother Arthur Boutilier and my sister Daphne Boutilier would like to join me at this time in offering our sincere condolences to the Clarke family.
