Chandler – Mary (nee Doma) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26th at her son Wayne Chandler’s home in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Clyde Chandler in 2005. She is survived by her son Wayne Chandler (Clair); her grandchildren Kris Chandler, Sarah Chandler (Simon Tung), and Marika Chandler (Anna Gaby-Trotz); her great-granddaughter Oriah Chandler (Philip Clarke) and her sister Anna Vandewyngaerde. She was pre-deceased by her brother Joseph Doma, sister Fannie Doma (Hungary) and parents Johan and Anna (nee Varga) Doma.
Mary was born in Brantford, shortly after her parents, brother and sister immigrated from Tormafölde, Hungary. She lived her life within blocks of St. Basil’s parish where she was a dedicated member of the congregation and 40 year member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, loving caregiver, doting grandparent, dedicated friend as well as a baker, bowler and golfer. She could often be found playing cards and claimed many a victory, including in the days before her passing. Mary travelled to the “old country” Hungary three times; first with her sister Annie, secondly with lifelong friends Helen and Isabelle and finally, on her most recent trip in 2006 with Wayne, Clair and all her girls.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Friday December 1st from 7-9 pm at Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home 96 West Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Basil’s Church at 50 Palace Street on Saturday, December 2nd at 10 am. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Children’s Aid Society. On line condolences may be offered at www.chandlersfuneral.com

Wayne, so sorry to hear about your Mom. Brantford has always been Mary and Clyde Chandler to me…I don’t go there anymore, but always remember visiting your parents there. Any time I hear anything about that city, I think of them, even decades later.
The best to you and Christina.
