CARVER – Sayward J., 80, of Mersey Point, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital on Thursday, November 29, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Born in Devonshire, Queens County, he was a son of the late Peter Seldon and Lurleen Carver.
Sayward started his love of working with wood in the former Milton Shoe Factory then as a logger, working in the woods for months on end in the winter. Carpentry was his long lasting career ending in a small business of making homemade crooked knives from scratch to the finished product. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and enjoyed playing darts, cards and horsehoes where he received many trophies. Hibernia Campground was Sayward’s “happy place”. He was an active member of the Nova Scotia Guides Association where he taught fly casting, kettle boiling and moose calling to young and old alike. Sayward was also an affiliate member of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool
Sayward is survived by his companion Theresa “Terry” Dorey of Liverpool; daughters Ann (Almon) Cunningham of Mersey Point; Sandy (Barry) Cross of East Berlin; Paula (Dave) Conrad of Liverpool. His grandchildren Almon Cunningham (Heather Benvie) of Liverpool; Megan Conrad of Bridgewater and Rebecca Conrad Morinville, AB. His great grandchildren Cody Benvie of Liverpool; Landon McCarthy, Skye and Leo Walker, all of Bridgewater.
Sayward was predeceased by his wife Roxie Eleanor (Baker) (Levy) and his son Paul Levy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Visitation will be held in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 7 until 9 p.m. with funeral service being held on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Reverend Carol Smith officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, College Street, Liverpool. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Mersey Branch # 38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool or to the Nova Scotia Guides Association. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlerfuneral.com
