
BUTT – Richard John William, 75, of Liverpool Queens County, passed away peacefully in Surf Lodge, Lockeport on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
Born in New Milton, England, Richard was a son of the late George and Maureen (Ellis) Butt.
Richard attended primary and secondary schools in New Milton followed by an apprenticeship at Wellworthy Engineering where he qualified as an electrical engineer. He enlisted in the Merchant Navy as an Engineering Officer working for Castle Line sailing freight from Southampton to South Africa. After a couple of years, Richard joined another shipping company which took him to Nova Scotia collecting paper from Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited in Brooklyn. He then joined Bowater as an electrician where he worked for over 30 years.
Richard enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and bingo and loved his poodles. He was an avid sports fan with hockey, golf and baseball being his favorites.
Richard is survived by his daughter Melanie (Dwayne) Tracey of Dartmouth. His grandchildren Felicity and Harlow. His brothers Peter (Pat), William (Linda) and Vincent (Alison) all of England.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his son Darren.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. No service by request. No flowers, donations may be made to your local S.P.C.A. or animal shelter. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
