Jean, Ronnie, and Heather,
The news of your mother’s passing has deeply affected me. I have such memories of the many visits during which I stayed at the Burns house, with Mom and Dad when I was a child, and with Brian, my hubby, once an adult and married. She was so gracious, warm, and others have mentioned, always had such a lovely smile. I remember, also, her understated sense of humour! Between her and your father, that home was always filled with laughter (and full bellies!).
She weathered great challenged, from what I observed, with a calm disposition and grace. She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren (and maybe even some great-great-grandchildren)–a true matriarch, if ever there was one.
Mom was a true matriarch, too, as I’m sure you recall. The loss of my mother is one I will probably never get over, so I know this loss is profound for all of you. They are forever missed, the likes of these women, but oh, the honour of having known them so intimately.
Your mother, personally speaking, was very dear to me. I remember once thinking, when I was about 9 or
Judy Tompkins
Oops–I guess I went on a bit too much, but just to conclude:
When I was about 9 or 10, I remember thinking that if anything happened to my own mother, I would adopt your mother as my new mother! It is a tribute to her, I think, that I so readily understood that she might adopt me if I asked her to.
Much love to you all, and maybe we will see some of you when we are in NS this summer.
