We lost my dear, sweet Uncle Garf on Saturday. He was a force of nature and a huge influence in my life and that of all of my “McKinnon” and “Brown” family and friends and especially my Aunt Romelda. He told us ghost stories (Mr. Wiggles Ox and the Green Hand were favorites), took us rafting on the Mersey, swimming at the Bear Hole, treasure hunts at Belleisle Bay, used “magic” to fill the Sugar Bear, many beach adventures especially at Beach Meadows … and too many more fantastic memories to mention. He will be missed more than any words can express. It’s hard to imagine a world without Garf in it, but he will live on in all of the lives he touched.

I was so sorry to hear this. “Garfie” has been part of my life forever. Growing up next door, the Browns were wonderful neighbours. Garf used to tease Margie and I when we played together. Whenever I saw him he was cheerful and always had time for a chat. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Romelda
It is with a sad heart that we send our condolences to you. The very first time that we met you both, it was an instant like. We felt like we had known you both forever. Garf’s stories, his laughter and that big smile could warm anyone’s heart. Even the last time that I dropped in to visit, though he wasn’t feeling the best, he still managed to share a few memories of growing up in Milton. I will miss his stories and he will certainly be missed in the community. We are just a phone call away if you need us.
Sincerely
Tim McDonald & Kevin Whynot

How very sad to know that the world will never be illuminated by Garf’s impossibly infectious smile and unfailing kindness. Dave and I were impressed and touched by the depth of the love between the two of you; on the one hand a bit exclusionary, yet inspirational and a testament as to how we should always regard each other. Your Friday night dinner and dancing rituals were so very special, and the unconditional regard you shared was powerful. The world was truly a better place for having Garf in it, and we feel blessed to have known him, and send hugs hugs hugs your way.
