BOWERS – Louise Alpin R.N., “Mum” – 87, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on June 22nd, 2012 in Queens General Hospital.
Born in Bridgewater, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles and Florence (Seldon) Donkin.
Mum was a graduate of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montréal and worked at Queens General Hospital and Bowater Mersey Paper Company. Mum was a volunteer with many organizations in Queens County, most notable being Cancer Care Nova Scotia, for which she received the Volunteer of the Year Award, the Queens General Hospital Gift Shop and the Hospital Hustle. She was also a past member of the Liverpool Curling Club. Mum was a very talented tole painter and spent many happy hours with “The Painting Girls”.
Mum was such a caring person, always putting others before herself. She was the mainstay of our family. We will always have her in our hearts and will carry on with the strength she has given all of us.
Mum will be fondly remembered by her adoring husband of 63 years, Mac. Her daughters Cathy (Gordon Marshall) and Anne. Her grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, Trevor, Craig and Blair Kelley, Carolyn Marshall (Brad Tousenard) and great-grandson Max. Sister Marion (Peter) Oldershaw of Seabright and her brother Charles (Jean) Donkin of Dartmouth as well as many wonderful friends.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. There will be no service as Mum requested, but a “family get together” will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Queens General Health Project or to the Lodge That Gives. Our family cannot thank Dr. Blackadar, the ER and nursing staff of Queens General Hospital enough for the care and compassion given to our Mum. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
