Condolence from Kelly Blackwood on April 6th, 2018 10:10 pm

Dave,Wanda, Raelene and Marita,
I share with you in the great loss of this tiny but mighty lady I called my Nannie. She was a very big part of my life for all of my growing up years and well into my adult life when she became G.G. to my own children..because she could not abide being called great grandmother! She was a role model to me, showed me how to dress as a lady and to behave as one as well. But when two very bright lights in her life went out as she lost first her eldest daughter (my mother) and then her husband Walter, (my Pop), the light within her began to dim as well. And as a result, I saw only traces of the vibrant woman that she had been from then on. The woman who had the courage to make changes to improve her life that meant moving to a new province as a woman in her 40’s. The woman who obtained her first driver’s license at age 54, the woman who learned to walk again…to live again after being involved in a car accident at age 83 that took the life from her husband, and left her with a broken hip, a collapsed lung and broken ribs. The mighty woman who then had the clarity of mind to know that it was again time for change so quickly sold her marital home and returned to Lunenburg and her five siblings. Sadly there she experienced another great loss when her sister Marilyn died in a car while seated beside her. Her light dimmed further then but she soldiered on and had many more happy years living in Lunenburg spending time with her brothers and sisters in law and friends.
Evelyn Borden was a woman to whom life dealt many blows but she, like my own mother was a woman who taught me that when life gets tough, you need to get tougher. You need to stand up and fight and fight she did.
Her final journey took her to the Queen’s Manor in LIverpool Nova Scotia to be closer to her only son Dave and daughter in law Wanda. There she continued to fight the battles of her new life with spirit and humour. Both her wit and her tongue were quick but I know she earned the respect of all who knew her there because she was a fighter who never ceased to fight for her life. And she won that fight every year for 100 years. Thank you Evelyn Viola Borden for being my Nannie. I will miss you forever.
Dave and Wanda, Raelene and Marita, thank you all so much for taking care of her these past years since she moved from Ontario. You were lucky. My thoughts are with you and again I share your loss.
